Gruesome discovery on Friday...

Friday when I was headed out to do errands I noticed buzzards circling in our side field that we planted in hardwoods. Drove up there to check it out and discovered someone had dumped several deer (doe) carcasses in our field...just the heads, hides, legs and innards. Looked around and discovered blood all over the side of the bridge...looked over and two more deer carcasses were floating in our creek.

I don't think these deer were poached off our land because I haven't heard any shooting up that way. Someone just dumped their bloody trash on our property and into their own drinking water (we're on well water, thank goodness).

This has happened before...deer with just the hindquarters cut off being dumped in the creek. It's illegal too, but that doesn't stop some folks obviously.

Hubby is going to contact the Game Warden and see about having some signs posted on the bridge...but they'll probably just steal those. That's happened before too.

We've had that done here as well, deer and one time bear parts. Someone poached a deer on the road, and just took the head. I assume it had a really nice rack.

That's really bad.

What about a sign saying, remember what you dump in this water you will be drinking soon.

Eck, that is just gross! Some people are just stupid and they don't make enough signs that can educate them. So sorry this has happened to you.

The hides can be sold if you have any buyers close by.

Somebody butchered rabbits (about two dozen) last November and threw the hides/heads/etc off the bridge and into the creek that borders our property line. Luckily the stream has been dry for months. It was a waste of some beautiful pelts.

For weeks the dogs were scrounging bunny parts and bringing the smelly things up to the house where I would have to deal with them.

Sometimes folks are just plain inconsiderate jerks.

Maybe a sign saying that there are game cameras hidden by the site? Even if there aren't, it might encourage people to move further down the road before dumping.

I once found dozens of skinned beaver dumped next to a road. The slob didn't even bother to take them out of the plastic bags so there were plastic laying all over.

We have a Hides For Habitat program where hides are donated and the MN Deer Hunters collect them at drop off sites. The money from the hides is used for deer habitat improvement.

It's not a brook...it's a large creek that has been "improved" by the Corp of Engineers. I don't think hubby will want to jump in (it's 26 degrees here right now) and swim around gathering up the deer carcasses. And I don't know how to swim.

All we can do is contact the officials and see if we can get warning signs put up. Like I said, they'll just be stolen...happened when the sheriff's department put up signs warning that it was illegal to discharge a firearm from a public road. Those were stolen, replace and stolen again.

I have the same problem here where I live. Just a rocks throw from my house is a bridge. I keep an eye on it as people like to dump carcasses off into the creek. At least once a year I have to wade the creek and pull either dead dogs or deer parts out of the creek. Pick up broken beer bottles also.

We swim, wade, and catch crawdads and fish out of that creek.

They should put up a wire screen on both sides of the bridge tall enough so people can't throw things off the bridge - the deer parts laying in a field will I believe be gone very quickly from birds and animals eating them - when I butcher a deer and throw the guts and hide on my property - I find it all gone in short order - in the water might be a different story -

If you have enough sawdust or old hay you can compost the carcasses.

Hello everyone,
I also have people dumping dear parts near my house. The vultures hang out and roost in the tall oak trees on my property. I sort of enjoy their company. Before I discovered what they were up to I kept asking my wife if I looked OK because the buzzards were hanging around.

I'm sure the buzzards will take care of the deer in the field. They're what caused me to go check in the first place.

Yuh know....... I was considering.........

Seriously, though..... hides, dog food, cat food, bones, fat for candles.... compost.... what's not to love ?

ETA...... back when the local meat locker (closed now, thanks to.......) used to bring us the seasonal deer offal, we set up a cooker for the cleaner meat and bone portions, all outdoors....for making chicken food.

Talk about watching raptors in action !

I would put up a sign that says,
This Bridge is Under Video Surveillance
Illegal Dumping Will Be Prosecuted
