imam azed about the lack of cows for sale in Wisc

I scrolled through all 12 cities in Wisc for cows for sale, outa boredom. There was only 1/2 doz people selling cows there.

They usta have that many farms selling calves and ship them to the buyers.

Are you looking to buy cows or orphan calves? It is my understanding that a lot of people buying direct from dairy farms mean less need for advertising.

Yes that is what I do buy directly from the dairy farms themselves.
Very few are even being advertising in th local ag paper.
Maybe this will help some.

Cattle prices are through the roof. My pasture renter paid $1400 for bred Brangus heifers. he's considering selling them for $2500. EACH.

We are in that cycle of cattle market, everyone wants to have some cattle, and we are at record low numbers do to the sell off that happened over the past 3 dry years.

No one has to advertise, the few sellers have a list of buyers to choose from.

As well as mentioned, we are in the wrong time of year, will be more once spring actually hits.

400-500 lb. calves are selling for around $2.20 per pound here. That's amazing.

There are NO Milk COWS in Okla, GENERALLY SPEAKING. The states got herds of beeves. Only the Amish/Minnonites have any sizeable amounts of milk cows.

For some reason farmers in Wisconsin haven't embraced craigslist yet.

FBB, are you aware that capitalized words is considered shouting?

If you're looking for a milk cow, why not check with your Amish communities?

You got the quote wrong. It says, "imam azed about the lack of cows for sale in Wisc". It is not talking about imams.

It is merely a spacing error. Read it as, "I'm amazed about the..."

U.S. Cattle Herd Shrinks to Smallest Since 1951 Amid Drought
By Elizabeth Campbell
Bloomberg.com
January 31, 2014

The U.S. cattle herd shrank to the smallest in 63 years as of Jan. 1, as ranchers struggled to recover from years of drought.

Beef and dairy farmers held 87.7 million head of cattle as this year began, down 1.8 percent from a year earlier, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said today in an annual report. That's the lowest since 1951, the USDA said. Six analysts in a Bloomberg News survey projected a 1.5 percent drop, on average.

The report also showed the 2013 calf crop was estimated at 33.9 million, down 1 percent from a year earlier and the smallest since 1949. The number of cows and heifers that calved fell to 38.3 million, the lowest since 1941, the USDA said.
