Looking for Black Lab?

I posted this on the Barter board, but thought I'd put it out here as well.

My BIL and SIL have a 2-yr-old black lab. My SIL's daughter and her husband had this dog as a puppy. As he grew, they realized they had bitten off more than they could chew so my SIL and BIL took the dog. They have worked with him, but due to a significant change in work schedule and a life change, the dog just doesn't get the time, attention or exercise he needs.

They are looking for a good home for this dog. He has an abundance of energy and they would love to see him go to a family who is knowledgeable about labs and can provide him the training and exercise he needs.

They live in the North Dallas, TX area and travel to the Shreveport, LA area fairly often. If you are interested or know of someone who might be interested having a young black lab, please let me know and I'll put you in contact with them.

Thanks.

My two cents worth...
Labs go through a 2 year period of "puppy". If I was a betting man, I'd say is dog will settle down into a very loyal and family oriented dog.

Hopefully I'm doing this right and you'll be able to see pictures.

The lab's name is Buzz.

I feel for ya. I adopted the sweetest dog on 12/30 from the pound and she's a lab mix. What a handful! LOL She goes through the family like they're bowling pins. I weigh 230 and it's all I can do to contain her on the leash and she only weighs about 60 pounds. They said she was about 2 years old so I sure hope Popscott is right! When she comes running to play I have to hunker down when I see her coming or I'm in for it. She has the uncanny ability to aim right for my bad knees or my balls. There have been several times when I've wondered if I made a bad choice, but they would have put her down soon and she's the sweetest dog. I hope you find a good home for Buzz soon or he calms down one. Good luck!

I have a black lab and a yellow lab. They were both rambunctious handfuls as pups.. Really the first few years. Now they are both about five and maybe once a week you can chase em around the yard and have some fun, otherwise they just lay around. The yellow one-Otto- he won't get off his bed before noon to even go outside.

I would take him, but I am not driving to Texas anytime soon. My dog died of old age so shortly there after, I got married to the gal I was dating at the time, she left me; I should have gotten a new dog.

Looks like a field type dog, not show, so he should be good for hunting! And yeah, two is still a pup, BUT getting ready to slow down. With some dedicated training, could be a VERY good dog.

looks like my Buddy

My lab is 80 pounds of mush and sludge. He is four and a half years old and lays around a lot. The first two years he was a black tornado and I was told it would pass and it did. I even fenced my yard for him 3 years ago and it helped a lot for him to just run. Now he would rather lay on my lap (oh, no, not again!) than any other activity. I hope he lives a long time because I had to put down my old dog in Nov.

I hope he finds a good home because he will be a great dog.

The biggest problems my BIL and SIL have had with the dog is lack of time. They don't have a large yard and the dog is in his kennel all day while they are at work. He is given a few minutes exercise in the morning and a little bit longer in the evening, but he just doesn't get the time or attention he needs. They want better for him and I'm happy to say that they found a new home for him. He is going to a home on 3 acres with the surrounding acreage owned by other family members. He'll have lots of room for exercise and better yet, he will be getting a lot more human time and attention.

Is it possible to ship the dog? Or I could make it as far as IL and pick him up there. I have 10 acres that he can roam and a lake for swimming.

He is a beauty, with an old-dog shape to his muzzle. Glad to hear someone can take him, it does sound like he needed far more time to run and play.

Now PLEASE do not tell us how this couple is adopting another dog anytime soon. Nothing more infuriating than people who want to shop around for a new dog right after they've admitted that they could not provide adequately for their previous dog.

Every dog I have ever adopted came from someone who had "bitten off more than they could chew" and it seems that they almost always go out and adopt ANOTHER dog as soon as I have pulled out of the driveway.

If you make a commitment to a dog and then cannot honor that commitment, find a good home and wait until your life is changed completely before trying again. If you fail the first dog (and to an animal who looks up to you the way a dog does, sending them to a new home, no matter how loving, is a failure on your part) then you do not have the right to "try again" with a second dog. Suck it up and get a cat or a parakeet!

This dog actually belonged to our niece and her husband. They were the ones that first bit off more than they could chew. They begged BIL and SIL to take the dog so they could still visit. Then life changed in big ways and they wanted more for the dog then they could provide. They already have a dog that they've had for about 7 or 8 years and have no plans to get another dog right now because their plates are just overflowing right now. Our niece and her husband have never gotten another dog.

I don't think they found a home for him yet. I know it isn't with me, at least not yet.

My last dog, Studly (hence my username) I did honor that commitment. One of the many ways, was after taking a job 130 miles from home and not finding someone to watch him, while I was gone for a week at a time; I brought him with me to work and commuted home every night, for two weeks until I found a place to stay near my workplace. And yes, I brought Studly with me during the week.

What a sweet username backstory! I had figured it had something to do with lumber.

Thanks, I hauled Studly all around the U.S. with me. He has been from ND to TX and WA to VA and many time to AZ. And he always knew when we were getting close to home; one time, he got so hyper, I kicked him out of the pick-up and he ran the last mile home.

That is him pictured in my avatar, he is in the back seat of the car with his head on the passenger headrest, looking out the windshield.
