well problem

Been up since 3am. Family member was in the shower when the pressure started dropping, then no water. The well house is in the ground, below the frost line presumably, but looking down there with a flashlight things looked frosty. Have to call the well co. as soon as they open but sure hope it's nothing but a simple fix, not something like digging a new well. We've got piles of snow and subzero temps.

Thanks for letting me air my worries.

most likely the copper line to the pressure switch is frozen. take a hair dyer or heat gun and thaw it out. then get a pigtail with a light bulb and attach to the points on the hot side and hang it close to the line and it will keep it from freezing.

If you have a small electric heater, put it down in the well house.

update

Something or other was frozen down there. Never happened before and the well pit is deep. Once thawed out, we put a heat lamp down and covered the lid with a tarp and straw bales. There is no snow cover over the pit due to the blowing and drifting this year, but I made notes and will be prepared - with backups - next year!

Thanks for the suggestions on what to do!
