Greenhouse Frame

I am wanting to play with a Green House(hoop house) and have been looking for a frame for several months. I finally found one a little over a hour away. He wants/asking $800, for 0ne $1500 for 2. They are 20ftX96ft. No Fans, no heat, what I get is what you see in the picture. He said the plastic went into a metal track with another track snapping on it to hold the plastic BUT some of the top pieces are missing. The ribs are about 4 1/2ft apart and are in good shape, doors are not any good. You that have these, is the price in order? I will have to take it down and haul. Thanks for your input.

Yes I would like to find one for free, but that has not happen.

If you have the land it is a bargain. Are the uprights cemented in??? I just purchased one 30x72 and it came with every thing but the end wall lumber. About $7,000. So if I had a chance and the money to get those two I would jump on it.

A very chipper old lady I know has applied to the dept of Ag on the county level. They have a program to help folks with all kinds of stuff, like buying greenhouses, digging wells, fencing, bee supplies. I am afraid the deadline to sign up is over for this year. If you are interested you can check it out.
She is getting a greenhouse almost free. And it is new.
Another feisty old lady friend of mine does not want this, she does not want a gov agency stick its nose into her business. So take your pick.

Farmtek http://www.farmtek.com/farm/supplies/home should give you a reference as to what it would cost new.

Update, I went and looked at them today. They are about 8ft tall in the middle. There is 17 hoops 1 3/8" pipe, so there would be 34 probably 5ft long pipes drove into the ground with 3ft above the ground that the hoops set into. 1 "channel" perlin from end to end. All the boards are in to bad of shape to reuse. The track that holds the plastic is missing alot of pieces. Nothing usable on the ends.
In my Opinion he wants WAY to much for what is there. The pipes that are drove into the dirt have alot of rust on them below the dirt(would probably be hard to re-drive) but feel solid. I feel I would have to much time taking them apart--Mainly the rusty bolts that hold the 2x4/2x6 to the side pipes. He wants $800 for one, or $1500 for 2. I Nicely explained all this and offered him $500 for 2. He Said he would not sell them for that at this time------but if he does not get a better offer in the next few weeks----he would call me back. Wondering now if my offer was way to cheap.

I would like to have the Hoops and drive new pipe a little longer so the sides are taller. But how much are 17 used hoops worth? A few have some bends/crooks in them but I feel I can straighten them.

I would like to know more about this as I was under the impression that there was no help available for beekeeping in Ky. Any info as where to look or what to ask for (and where to ask) would be appreciated if you can get the info. Thanks John

Get in touch with a greenhouse supply place, not FarmTek but a real wholesale greenhouse supplier in your area. Ask for a quote on the framework for a similar sized unit and then you'll know if it is a bargain or not. also, take into account the time needed to dismantle the ones for sale. If you can get a complete unit with all the ground posts for twice the price, you'd be better off. Since you'll need new channel locks get that price also, but don't use it to compare the sellers price as you'll need to buy new ones anyway. Before you jump in, also check on the price of plastic which can vary greatly depending on the kind (get only greenhouse plastic, not construction plastic) for better light transmission. They have many kinds so do some homework. You'll also need fans, electric, water and hoses, thermostats for both heating and cooling and a heater if you plan to heat it. Cooling is required no matter what. then the cost of lumber for the ends and hardware are needed, a door at each end, and something to grow in, either raised beds, benches and/or pots, plus soil media, fertilizer, etc. Consider the whole cost before doing it piecemeal.

Yea I know the Greenhouse plastic will be around $1000(double top) for one that size. I built this one for $150 2 years ago(construction plastic I bought for $5 at a auction), but I was wanting something bigger(its 11x42ft. I might should just put some good greenhouse plastic on it----but, again I Want something bigger.
