Side post to woodstove

So i am very interested in the post that was talking about heating your home with a wood cook stove. We planned on putting in one on the lil house outdoor furnaces. My wife badly wants a wood cook stove too. We built our home last year it is 2000 sq ft ranch style home. Very open floor plan ( only 3 dividing walls in entire home).12 inches of cellulose in attic plus our interior walls are used metal and barn wood so plenty of cracks and holes. You think a pioneer princess stove would heat the entire home? We located in central Il. Thanks.

Wall insulation? Central place for stove? Seasoned hardwood available?

I have seen larger homes heated with a Pioneer princess, in colder climate than central IL. If it proves too small, add another foot of insulation in the ceiling.

In our own case we installed separate stoves for heating and cooking. Couldn't be happier with that setup, because of the flexibility. Plus, if anything were to ever go wrong with one stove, we have the second.

Make sure though that you have at least a small propane backup for either. I actually timed how long it took to make a cup of cappacino starting at lighting the match. It was 45 minutes on our woodstove. That is a little too long a wait for my morning coffee.

I would only consider a cook stove with hot water coil if installing one. You can then cook on it , use it to heat the place and give you hot water to shower.

When building new is the best time to install it.

Put the water coil to a water heater tank in a basement or behind the stove ( I see a lot of set ups where it is under the stairs going to the second floor) plumb it to run hot water to the house. Get a water tank that you can run gas or electric for summer use when you are not using the wood cook stove.

Folks I know use a coleman cook stove for summer cooking.
