Hunker Down

I am not moving for the next 3 days. The forecast is for very cold weather, highs of -22 and -16 in Fargo. We usually get lower than the forecast. I expect lows of -40 and windchills up to -75.
Hunker Down - Homesteading Questions

Here are the things I have done to prepare.

Filled the wood box inside and have plenty on hand outside too.
Filled the water jug so I have plenty of drinking water in case of power outage.
I have plenty of propane for the cook stove.
Fresh batteries in the flashlights,
Coleman stove fuel, lanterns, and stove if I need them.
Candles.
Kerosene and lanterns.
Extra gas for the generator.
Plugged in the Bronco.
Enough food in the pantry to last for months.

Anything I overlooked??

We wont see anything near that, but Monday and Tuesday it will be cold by most folks standards around here. Highs in the low 40's. I guess that would be a heat wave for you. Just a light jacket or a vest for me.

I just wish it would have come thru this weekend, I have a couple hogs to kill and that sure would have been the ticket.

Ouch, that sure is some bitterly harsh weather. I wish you the best of luck. Love hearing that people do plan ahead instead of waiting until weather hits and wonder 'why them' when something bad happens!

The polar bears have been extirpated here. Some say the indians did it but from my own observations it was the mosquitoes.

We will be cooling off also, we are dropping from the 70s into the 60s with nights in the mid 40s. Glad I'm here.

My maintenance man called me this evening since he is leaving on his two week west coast vacation in the morning to tell me to pencil stream the end of the water line faucet in my attached greenhouse to ensure my line doesn't freeze during the three days of sub zero wind-chill.

As we ended our conversation he said he was turning it off and only using his travel phone that only a few of us who don't call him about work on his vacations have access to so he can taunt us by sending us picture of bikinis on the beach.

I've always found movement keeps you warm.... Dress in layers, and don't let Jack rule your life...

Think of the people that got stuck in the antarctic... They laughed in Jacks face...

Watching the snow come down now. It is pretty but I don't dare say that to my DH which will be out working for who knows how long. More weather expected in Wed. through Fri. I think.

Nimrod, I think they gave you our forecast by mistake, LOL! We've got 10" so far and it's coming down like crazy. Don't mind that just hate those sub-zero temps. Thinking about making a big 'ole pot of chicken and noodles and some home made bread! Everybody stay warm and safe! ~RM

Business as normal, tho it *might* take a bit longer to get to work.

Of course, I grew up on a dairy farm in northwestern lower Michigan

Forecast for mid-20s here (Houston area) tonight/tomorrow night. Spent this morning hauling in tender plants (my garage looks like a jungle), DH is wrapping exposed pipes now. Haven't had a hard-freeze threat in years. Hopefully it will kill some bugs.
