water filters

i was wondering if anyone has any experience with water filtering. now i rough spring house were i live thats over a cultivated spring an over the years dirt an stuff has got all down in it makes the water smell like pond water. now i have bought some berkley water filters an set them up in a bucket. due to cost i went with the 7 inch ceramic filters instead of the 9 inch ones. is there a better way to set these up to get the most out of it ? im only getting 5-7 gallons filtered a day an had clean filters lightly few times already
