Mystery item
Anybody know what this is? It was in the garage of a house I bought.

is it a cattle gaurd of some sort for a vehicle. From the photo it looks like the bars that go up are angled backwards?

There is nothing to gauge the scale other than most steps are between 5 and 7 inches.
Possibly a fold out double step on a bit of old machinery?

It's a thinga-majigger, often times confused as a whatcha-macallit.

Looks like an art object. Maybe part of a fancy iron gate?

Hard to see much detail but the arms coming off the back look to be bent parallel to the ground at the top. Are the drilled with a possible screw hole. If so, I'd guess there is a mirror image matching piece somewhere and it was the base for some machinery item.

Yes, it is aesthetically pleasing. It's only about 12 to 14 inches long.
The ends of the bottom bar look like the slipped into some sort of housing.
The flat bottom V thing that is resting on the second step slides freely up and down in the channel formed by the vertical pieces.

I will agree with the poster mmoetc. on this one. It does look like half of a support for some sort of machine or hand-operated tool of some sort, possibly a grinder(grain or otherwise?) My first thought was a haylift (to move loose hay from the wagon into the hayloft) but it's too small, imo; then I wondered about it being one of the sides of a treadle sewing machine, but again it's probably too small. Whatever it was, it was most likely preserved because "I might need it someday".

I have one nearly like it.... I scratched my nose and the auctioneer said, "Sold!"
Actually, I have no idea...It reminds me of a Ninja multi-purpose weapon, though...Maybe a bull cinch.

I thought it looked something like a gadget for helping you pull off your boots. My uncle had one, but I really don't remember what it looked like in any sort of detail.

I have seen something similar to this that was the guard on the front of a pot belly stove. Not exactly the same, but very close.

This may sound crazy but I was watching modern marvels the cheese episode and they used something similar to this only turned over to stir the cheese. it think it is a part from an old cheese making machine. I think it is before the stainless steel era. I think it is a stirring paddle of sorts.
