hard to tell the size but my first thought was cougar. That is what I would think if it were here in Idaho. In PA, less of a chance but it does look like one.

Common house or feral cat, the tail is not long enough for a cougar.

what makes it look more like a cougar to me is the more defined neck and the tail on the ground. As far as the tail length, I can't see exactly where it ends.

The tail isn't on the ground.. it's just below the top of the grass.. A cougar would have a tail that would appear to be almost twice as long as this one appears when you consider the scale..

As an example..

That's not even a cougar and it's not walking like the one in the OP is. Also, are you sure it's in grass or maybe it's in heavy, tall brush. Either way, it looks like a cougar to me based on the ones i've seen here in Idaho and in Arizona. I would say it's a lot less likely given the fact that it's in PA rather than a place where cougars are plentiful, but the shot does look like one to me. I would like to see the picture with something in it for perspective.

Either way I'm for sure not going to let myself get baited into another peeing match again with a city boy who doesn't know the difference between a black panther or a cougar.

It's in PA.. they don't have cougars in PA supposedly.. If they did, it would be an Eastern Cougar, and those aren't black...

You are right.. the one above isn't a black cougar, but the tail is very similar to the length of what a cougar's would be..

Also, the grasses of PA aren't going to be son big and long as to make that cat look that small..

OH, and even if there was an eastern cougar in PA, the chances of it being black are going to be slimmer than my chances of winning the Mega Millions..

I may live in the city now.. but I spent most my live living and growing up in the country... I grabbed that first picture real quick to point out the scale of the tail to the picture of the OP's house cat..

After running the first photo through our most advanced photo enhancement and identification software I think that we can say that it is probably filled with evil.

There are no documented cases in north America of ANY black cougars. So no, that isn't a TRUE black cougar. They are hanging out with the chupacabras and the sasquatch.

Oh good for you, Simi-steading. You removed the pic of the mythical black cougar.

Cougars aren't "supposed" to be in NY either but there are sightings and some found as roadkill.

You do realize that grass can grow very tall in PA, right? It does in NY and we even bale it as hay.
