Walking plow

I've got two walking plows we are trying to restore. I was wondering if anyone can identify the one with the metal handles. The only mark on it is a stamped "AM". There are some part numbers on some pieces but no manufacturers name.

Could be an Avery, because the AM could stand for "Avery Manufacturing". B.F. Avery and Sons had a manufacturing plant in Louisville, Kentucky back in the day. Waaay back in the day, like 1860 thru the early 1900's or so.

they had it up to WW 2. I would think a name would be found on the plow beam. I got a JD Lister, and my dad had a Case plow, and they both had their names on the beams.

Thanks for the help guys....the John Deere one has it stamped right on the beam but the other one only has the two letters.

Thought I'd take a chance that someone might know.

No, the John Deere has the completely wooden handles. The unidentified one has the metal grips but there is wood pieces connecting them to the body of the plow.

When you say you want to restore those two walking plows, do you want them to look nice for a display or do you want to bring them into useful working condition?
On tractor mounted plows your adjustments can be off and still plow fairly well. Same for plow points and landside adjustments. These are critical on a walking plow. The amount of suction by the landside matched by the suction of the point, balanced by the height of the hitch point will determine if you get any plowing done.
I had a two-way riding plow that was Albany Manufacturing, later bought out by John Deere. So, AB could be from there.
When I bought my farm, there was a walking plow that had a lever to rotate the moldboard around so you could plow to the right and plow to the left with a flip of the lever. The plow was in perfect shaped, so I assume it didn't work very well.
Why does it matter what brand of plow you have?
