Game camera recommendations?

Posted to CF but am getting no replies, so....

DH has been talking about getting a game camera since we moved here, so I figured we'd look for one for Christmas. We are not technically savvy people....any recommendations for one that's easy to set up/use, and that doesn't cost a fortune?

Thanks!

I've got one of these Bushnell's.... Takes great pictures and video. Seems to trigger well.... I paid $100 for it at Walmart. at the time, it was the cheapest one they had on the shelf..

Simple set-up and use..

Go online to see review . How well it does it at night is important . most require you to remove a sd card (walking) . A price of 200-400 is good average .

A few things! I use wildgame intovations.,Model IR2. Infrared is less intrusive to some game but is black/white at night and color daytime. If color night pix then I have the is2. The 2 stands for 2gig or just less than 4000 pix on a 2g sd card. Don't get caught up in the hype of "16 GIG". you'll never use that much.
They use 4 c cell batteries and are also set up to use an optional outside power source. They are not the latest and greatest now so can be had for under $50 if you can find them. I've had 3-ir2 and 1-is2 for three years and just today for the first time had a problem, which is dampness that needs to be dried out so pretty correctable.
I use rechargeable batteries and change them out once a week and have no trouble except extreme cold lowers their life.I'm quite happy with them. Hope this helps.

$50 for a game cam?????

I thought that I read that some cameras don't take the picture instantly and if an animal is running it may trigger the camera and not be captured on the disk. Is that correct?

Yeap! Sure is! Ya' got to set them up facing the legnth of a trail or on a salt lick or scrap etc. If ya' got big bucks ya get big features but i'm happy with what I got.Just got to be careful of your set up.

I have good luck with wildgame innovations. I like them cause they are small and easy to hide to catch poachers and not be stolen. Live and learn tip : get nickel metal hydride batterys not nickel cadmium batterys . After a year of chargeing it will be the difference of changing them every 2 to 3 weeks to 1 time a month. The cadmium battery after a year of charges don't hold the charge as well as the hydride ones does . I bought them at the same time so my test would be fair. Another thing I found is get wood wedges to tilt the cams down if your using them for people and not wildlife. Then you can mount them higher in the trees so they cant be stolen as easy . I use a climbing stand to mount them. I have been thinking of getting some climbing sticks to have less weight to carry out into the woods.

I'm using game cameras on my property in the mountains. Even though I have great neighbors that keep an eye on my place I still decided to place game cameras to ID if anything happens. My big thing is long battery life I only wanted shots not video. I like the Simmons I have. Not expensive yet good battery life OK night pics.

2 months did you get ahold of the company and try to get them to stand behind their product ? What brand would you recommend ?

Do not get a Moultrie. I read all the reviews said it was the best thing since sliced bread. I got it to see who comes and goes around here with no one around. Kind of isolated. You put in a code to get the pics etc. Theft reasons I suppose.

4 D batteries for power. Eats those up in about 2 days. You have to do an Irish jig in front of it for it to take a picture and do not put it up where the wind is blowing around trees, you will have hundreds of scenic shots.

Went to access the pics one day and it locked me out. Had it 2 weeks. Got ahold of the manufacturer and they said to send it back, on my dime both ways and a $35 charge to unlock it. I told them I just bought the piece crap. Don't care, these are the terms, they said I should have read the fine print.

My take on this one.
