Building a Walk in Freezer

I know that you can build one cheaper than buying one new . Trying help a organization in S.D that needs one for large group (meals) . I know that their kits and a device that trick a/c to run cooler . Suggestions on where to look .

Walk-in cooler, yes.

Walk-in FREEZER, no.

You can't get a standard AC to do that.

Which one do you want ?

Our son is building a walk in cooler big enough to hang a two sides of our beef.
After he started a friend of ours told him to check with Taco Bell and similar businesses because apparently they install new ones every six years and sell the old ones reasonably. She does catering and got two of them at a good price.

The device is nice, but you can make your own set up with a ~$60-80 Johnson 419 controller that had built in time delay for re-start.

Not really the same.

The difference being the Johnson unit is only a thermostat with a couple of relays and the CoolBot is a combination thermostat and heating unit that you connect to the AC sensor to fool the sensor on the AC unit into 'thinking' it's warmer than the room actually is.

Without that, window AC unit will only go down to low to mid 60 degree range....then shut down.

Not saying you couldn't rig up some to heat the sensor off the relays, but without it it won't work.

AND if you're gonna do that, buy a 19 buck version of the same thing instead of spending 60-80 for the Johnson unit. I use this in my fodder growing system to turn on heat as needed and run a cooling fan when the cabinet gets too hot.

You are correct they aren't quite the same. I read the Coolbot patent and its a clever design around. The pricier Johnson controller is anoother way to go. With its adjustable setpoints, differential, and the anti-restart feature you can make this work without the heating unit....You can find folks doing this elsewhere on the web. You can't pull more than a critical amount of cooling flow from either setup so the AC unit needs to be way oversized, but it cools deer fine.

OR you could just "re-calibrate" the AC unit's thermostat and save all that money... otherwise buy a cooler thermostat for the same price as the coolbot. Same-o Same-o!
