Developing a spring

If anyone else is planning to develop a spring, I found this video very helpful:

I could not find the second part, I wanted to see his spring box and what else he did to improve the spring. He said he would rather have it than a well, don't know about that for potable water. My problem with his spring (from what I saw) was it is right in the bottom of the draw, all the surface water runs right there too. Great for a emergency supply but not really a potable water source. If off to the side or dug in deep and filled with gravels to filter it could be potable water. Could be tested I suppose after a rain event to see if it was good then.

I have a good spring, it will free flow a 2" pipe all summer, it even runs a water baby generator. It is 6' deep, 20' long pipe with a sock, backfilled with pea gravel, as good as a well....James

I'm tending to agree with James. An above ground spring carries a great ability of being contaminated.
Digging a cross trench and installing a collection pipe would give more integrity to the quality of the water source.
Keeping a spring contained underground is best. Alot more work, but best.

This is exactly what is done in the video series.

Thanks for posting the rest of the videos Possum Belly. I'd looked all over for the last one and couldn't find it.

James I'd like to know more about your Water Baby. I'll start a new thread in case you don't return to this one.
