choke then run on a generator...question...

I can get my generator running. At one time, I used to move the throttle all the way to run. Now its half way between choke and run. We have to adjust to get it to idle right. Is this normal? I have run B12 chemtool through it and it has not changed.

I know with my old lawn mowers you you had to choke first and then find the happy medium. Should I have it serviced?

The carburetor sounds like it is still dirty, IMO.

Ethanol sludge can build up and only direct spray from carb cleaner, gets it out, IME. Usually the carb needs taken apart and cleaned.

Clogged fuel filter or trash or water in fuel.Sometimes my Super A does that.Won't run unless its half choked.I open it wide open and choke it till it cuts off.Then start it back up and it runs fine.

No, you should not have it serviced. You should learn how to service it yourself. Small engine maintainance is not rocket science. If you want to read up, go first to your public library and find a text on small engine repair.

EVERY homesteader should have the ability to clean a spark plug or flush fuel lines. I've already fully disassembled a generator carburetor, and put it back into working order. It's just another step in the direction of being self-sufficient.

I agree - fix it yourself - but instead of going to the library - get on the internet and find some sites that tell you how to do it -

A good can of DUNK is a must have. Disassemble the carb lay all pieces out in order. Make sure to get the seat for the needle out if it has one. This may also be the problem as the ethanol causes them to swell closed. Once all the plastic and rubber parts are out the soak all the metal parts in the dunk for 30 min. to 24 hours. Most Honda carbs take 24 hrs. They have real small passages. Then wash with hot water blow dry with compressed air and reassemble in the order you took it apart. A small piece of wire to rod out the passages you can get to is handy also. The seat for the needle is easy to remove by blowing compressed air through the fuel line fitting.
