I haven't paid attention to potato prices, but if they are like everything else at the grocery store, they went up.. and that is all over the country..

But don't be fooled.. there is no inflation.. we've been told there's not, so I know there isn't...

A small chain here has 10-lb bags $1.50 ea on sale today. Have already stocked a half-dozen similar bags over the last month at that price.

Some depends on what you like. Of course, we like the red skinned potatoes the best, and they're usually not the cheap ones, especially if they happen to say, "Organic" on the bag.

We bought a cheap bag of Russets a month or so back and really did not enjoy them at all. They were cheap. But we need something we can enjoy, too.

We just paid 12 bucks for a 50lbs. of reds from the muck farms. At the local grocery store you can get a 3lb. bag of russets for $1.09.

Dear old dad came home with umpteen 5 gallon buckets of small red potatoes.

Perplexed(because I know he had already gotten potatoes from the farmer whom he places beehives on the farm for), I asked him where they came from.

He tells me he passes by another potato farm in the edge of Missouri when checking on his bees. He notices a huge pile of small potatoes on the ground and a dumptruck dumping more on the pile. He stops and asks and is directed to the owner of the farm. The farmer says he raises potatoes for a certain grade and a certain size(large). All of these are cull because they didn't meet the size requirements.

Dad asks him if he'll sell his "culls" unworthy of the mans desired size for market. The man says take all you want, we just leave them there.

Now this seems crazy to me, they're not rotten or bad. In fact these are store quality "new potatoes" that I would of paid more for than the large size potatoes. The farmer was throwing them away...FREE NEW POTATOES..YEA!!!.

BTW, here in Arkansas regular red potatoes are 3.99 for a 5lb bag now. However, prices should go down since evidently the potato crops are being harvested.
I started freezing, shredding, etc. today. 2 five gallon buckets down, more to go. Not 1 bad spot on any of them.

Wonder if this is why your potato prices are high....Remember these potatoes came from just over the border from Arkansas and where in Missouri.

Horsefly, I'll be going to the Muck Farm next week...do they have beets this year too??

Around here some of the potato farms let you go in and clean up the fields after the harvest. You can just pick up anything the machinery missed.

Lucky you! You would think he would sell them cheap to a pig farmer or something. I'd buy them. Or donate them to a food pantry.
