SAFETY ALERT for jerkey treats for Dogs

https://www.avma.org/news/issues/rec...-for-pets.aspx

These are made in China and include duck, chicken and sweet potato. One article listed various companies selling them. There is not yet a recall, although I recently bought 2 large bags from Costco and am not feeding them to my dogs.

I heard on GMA this morning, 600 dogs had died, also thousands were sickened but they haven't figured out what the exact toxin or contaminant is yet. Until this is sorted out, don't feed any jerky treats unless you made them!

EXACTLY!

There are fewer and fewer treats and rawhide that is US made these days. I will continue to buy USA made food and treats for my dog. If I find I can't, I'll probably just go back to the "old ways" and start feeding the dogs table scraps, etc. China has so few regulations on food for human consumption, I don't even want to think about the lack of regulation for animal food.

Just as a side note, have you ever priced out the cost of these against T-bones?

I don't buy commercial treats for my dogs. If I did, I'd never buy anything from China. This isn't the first problem they've had.

I dont buy any pet food or treat of any sort from china - nor people food for that matter. Too many cases of poison in it - do you all remember about 6 years ago all the pet food that was recalled because it was poisoning pets and killing them? Also of chinese manufacture or made from chinese ingredients.

This is the same system responsible for this

if they dont care enough to set safety standards for their own children do you think they care about your pets? Inspect all your pet foods carefully and make sure it doesnt come from china - personally I only trust stuff made in the USA

I just threw out some Western Family jerky sticks as I read that many Made in the USA dog treats use ingredients from China. And since WF is so cheap, there's no way it's good quality. Of course I know that buying them, but distraction with junk food is the only way to clip one of our dogs nails!

Our local butcher shop makes great chicken and liver dog treats and sells bones for dogs.

Wasn't there something about China being allowed proses chicken and ship it to the states a while back?

I may never eat out again!
