Under attack!!
From my black walnut tree. It's between my house and my shed, so the walnuts are either hitting the roof over my bedroom, or the tin roof of the shed. It's a little windy here today, so it's a frequent occurrence. I just had 5 or 6 hit the roof at once and it sounded like gun fire.

My 6 month outdoor shower is under the hickory and nearly got nailed the other day while showering.
Not tripping while walking is also quite the challenge.

I miss black walnuts.
We had a tree when I was a child

This reminds me of a neighbor who had moved from a northern city a few years back. Her and the children were at their house alone one night, when they heard loud bangs on the tin roof. She called scared to death and said someone was either shooting at their house or throwing rocks at the roof, and she couldn't tell which. We knew immediately what it PROBABLY was (acorns) but she said nooo, this is REALLY loud. So we went down to check things out and it was...acorns. We liked to never have convinced her of that though.

That reminds me of when I first moved into this house, here in the mtns of east TN. My family had been teasing me about "hillbillies" "moonshine", and the like. I hadn't even moved any furniture in yet, but was sleeping on a pallet in the bedroom. I had just gotten to sleep when, bang, bang, bang. Scared the crap out of me, and my first thought was "holy **, the hillbillies are shooting at one another." A neighbor two doors down has a fireworks stand and he was shooting off some inventory.

Don't underestimate those acorns! At college, there was a huge oak tree that had branches that stretched over the walkway to the main science building. Squirrels would sit in the branches and wait for classes to get out. As soon as people were underneath, they'd start make a ruckus and cause acorns to come raining down on the students.
I don't know if they were just mean or if acorns trodden by desperately running students were easier to eat, but you could set your watch by those bloody squirrels. They knew when their targets would be arriving.

Acorns on a metal roof make lots of racket. But Oh the wonderful sound of rain on the metal roof. We are sure missing that sound in drought stricken Texas.

No nuts here, just large pine cones that get very wet during fall, then freeze. Most metals roofs in town have dings. Scares guests something fierce. A heavy frozen pinecone falling a 100 feet is pretty loud.

If you were not there, would it make any noise?

I'm tempted to wear a hard hat this time every year. Of course, that won't help when I throw my back out doing the "Black Walnut Shuffle". Step, kick, SLIDE!

I have black walnut trees all over my property. You should see the dents all over my cars. My poor border collie thinks they are balls and chases them down the hill, only to be disappointed when he catches them. lol

It wouldn't of surprised me , I don't think I've ever mentioned my dear sweet hubby is from the hills of Tennessee. And my username fits, lol.
I've got a Pecan. My rabbits are under the tree, newbies(new stock) have been scared to death with the sound of the Pecans hitting the top of their hutches . They get used to after awhile and ignore it like the other buns .
