Anger, humor, irony, and goodies in the woods

Went to the woods to do some work today in the drizzling rain. Slow going because I'm converting my tractor trail to a pick-up trail and I kept having to stop to widen the path. Got to some wood that I had cut last winter and started splitting. I hadn't split 10 rounds before my brand new hickory maul handle broke off near the head. Bad cross grain.

OK, still plenty of smaller stuff to load. Started loading wood. The radio in the truck was on had a guest speaking about chicken-of-the-woods mushrooms. (here is the irony) Just then my wife (who is deaf and thus oblivious to the radio conversation) said "hey! Is that a mushroom?" Sure enough, about 30 yards away was a big old Chicken mushroom! A little past prime but it's cool enough that the bugs hadn't hurt it too bad. Got back to the truck and finished loading it and she points off in the other direction and said "Mushroom!". Sure enough an oak tree with several large chickens at the base. After that we wander around a little and find another one. Ended up with 6 plastic grocery sacks full.

Pretty good little trip to the woods.

Wonderful. I am heading for the woods. But what if I find a bunch. Can't even give them away. People think they will kill you.
