I am not sure if it will help, except that fencing to keep out the critters is usually a good idea. Netting overhead also helps keep the bird portion to a minimum.
I have cultivated blueberries along my fence line, and on the other side, my neighbor has wild ones. I'm not sure, but think the pollination is better due to them. Nevertheless, I do notice a remarkably large difference in size between the wild and cultivated.
Just as each variety of blueberries has different characteristics as to size and flavor and season of harvest, I imagine the wild ones are genetically smaller which could be influenced a little by fertilization and regular water (if natural rains aren't sufficient), but don't expect to change the basic characteristics all that much.
