Want to Live the Homesteading Life?

This is a real production company looking for families who want to leave their lives behind to start over as homesteaders. If this graphic intrigues you, send them an email. It is the real deal; we've been working with them for several months.

Mods, this isn't an ad to buy anything, and I don't work for the company. They are trying to find families to do a reality show.

I know there are many people on this site who still live in the city, as well as those who can't quite make a go of homesteading the way they would like. If you want to leave your current situation and start over, tell your story in an email to the address below.

I also know there are MANY who would never, ever want their story told on t.v., so to those folks, please know there are those crazy enough who would.

Ever one of these ive heard about, they try to dictate how things are done to squeeze more entertainment out of what might seem humdrum. Some make the homesteader look stupid. Some make them do ridiculous things that seem right to a city person but real homesteaders/gardeners/farmers can see that its just wrong. Good luck. I see that its for women only. WHY??

I think it would be strange for someone who really wants to live a homesteading type of life to be the kind of person to exploit that. Almost oxymoronic. Usually our type of people are not the attention seeking types.

just seems odd to me. Isn't a lot of the homesteading life about NOT being part of the rat race? Yet if you're on TV, you are part of it.

It's probably going to be a survivor type scenario, you know, where they put you in the middle of know where and you have to compete for towels, livestock, building materials etc. to see who can become the most self sufficient. I'm just guessing by the way the ad is worded.
Kind of like that show they had with all of the kids living in a ghost town and making there own way, learning to survive.

We learned our lesson back in 2005/2066 with CA PBS shooting "America'a Heartland". They shot the footage in 2005 and aired in it 2006. (Episode 106)

Started off the film crew was 1.5 hours late in shooting the morning chores. Our Jersey milk cow was leaking and definitely crossing her legs by the time they got there. Our first 'funny' was when the film crew asked us to bring back the geese so they could get another shot of Paul walking to the barn. I simply told them that the geese weren't registered with the SAG.

It was a pretty good day ... more amusing to us, once the morning chores were finished. We brought in good friends for a 'farm tour' and we fed them a huge noon time meal using fresh ingredients from our homestead.

We were not compensated in any manner for this shoot. We did it because we believed they were sincere in that they wanted to bring light on the family farm.

It was not only an insult, but an injury when we viewed the series and found out that both Farm Bureau (who used a shot of our homestead as their backdrop for their commercial) and Monsanto sponsored the series.

Bah! Never again!

At last! We'll finally get a real definition of homesteading in the view of the Hollywood TV producers -and in the eyes of those gullible enough to watch it.

As with anything, there is risk. Risk of it not being what you want it to be, how you are portrayed, etc. I think many of those things could be solved during the contract process, if it is THIS then I will sign, if not then I won't.

This show is for a women oriented network, hoping to portray strong women leading their families to a better life. That is the reason for the call to "women and their families". Mountain Men shows strong willed men living a similar life, why not show women who will do the same?

This production company is interested in the stories of WHY people would choose this lifestyle, and trust me, the people there are very interested in the topic and want others to see it, to understand why this is a better life.

But the real reason I put this here is because the people involved are extremely nice, and they are looking for a few more families to round out the group and the stories they have to tell. For those who don't have the money to make the jump that they want, this might be a way for them to do it.

I am involved for the same reasons I started my websites; I am an extremely private person, so it took a lot of thinking for me to even put myself out there on the web. But in the end, I want people to be encouraged and inspired to make a change, knowing that if I can do it, a person with zero experience in this way of life when I started, then anyone can.

And so, it is a risk, in many ways. But I know that just from my farm pages, many people have grown a food garden this year for the first time, simply because I told them they could do it. People need to be encouraged to make a change.

Imagine how many could make a leap of faith if this show is done well?

That is my hope, and why I am willing to be involved. I do not want to be on t.v., but if we really believe that this country will be better off if more people come to this side of the fence, well then someone has to show them how to do it.

I think that you achieved your goal. Excellent. It was not a waste of time and energy. You will never see all of the good that you are doing. Keep sewing. Show business is hard but I think that the end product turned out great. You got a rare look into what it takes for a few minutes of edited programing. Can't say enough about what you do.

No, it isn't that kind of format. No competitions, no silly games. Just following people as they make the transition from where they are to where they want to be.

Sure there will be the filming for drama kind of scenarios, as there always are when you want a successful show with good ratings. And I am okay with that, as long as homesteading is portrayed in a positive light; think of the difference a show like this could make! Maybe after watching this show a few people will make provisions for the children in the case of a power outage so their babies won't be cold; maybe a family will put food back so that they won't go hungry if Daddy loses his job.

Television is a powerful medium, and these scenarios are real; women especially need to consider how they would care for their families if a cog in the wheel of American life slips out of place. Because right now, most people don't think past going to happy hour after work.

This is not a one time documentary, but a series, where you will work with a film crew on an ongoing basis.

I think there is enough interest out there that a format like this could be hugely successful. And maybe I am too optimistic about it, but I really think opening people's eyes in this way will save a few lives.

If I am wrong, and the show bombs or is simply exploitative in a negative way, I will no longer be involved. But I've got to try.

I'm trying to get away from all these morons, not invite them in.
