Anybody sen the U Tubes for Socketsytems.com?

Its for building barns and sheds with no cross pieces in the roof. I watched it again last night. I had watched it last winter and tried to call the ph#, Box full. I just tried again. Same thing. Seems like a great idea. Wonder how they sell anything if a buyer cant call them to place an order.

Bill you need to provide a link because otherwise I am too lazy to first go to youtube and then search for socketsystems.

Thanks po boy.

Some years back I took a nite course in alternative construction. We had a field trip on a Saturday. One location had a passive solar house and a big garage/workshop that was made with this socket system and had straw bale sides.

Really though ... I come from a family of carpenters and I think I would rather do stick construction or else post and beam.

If you were to spend the outrageous amount per "frame" for the products, add shipping, then add the cost of graded timber, or engineered lumber ( a requirement before any code official would approve such a building system) you would end up with a pretty impressive bill. This would naturally be for the cost of the pretty impressive pile of uninstalled material. The issue here is that for quite a bit less you could hire a local pole barn builder to erect the same size building with doors, windows, roof, siding, etc. That is probably why pole barns sprout like mushrooms in these parts and "socket systems" buildings are pretty rare, or maybe even non-existent.

I think socket systems are rare cause nobody knows about them. Id never heard of them before, and was just browsing and ran onto them. Id never heard of them before. I have a bunch of 3 X 4 lumber 10/12ft long. You cant nail in it, its so hard. Was thinking that those things could work if I bolted them to the timbers.

Have you tried to pause it so that would keep loading without watching it till it gets done loading?

Sure have. Seems to work on some vids, not on others. Sometimes the ball moves forward slowly. Sometimes it gallops to the end of the line.

My folks hated HughesNet. For the reasons you describe.

We've gone with Exede/WildBlue, and it's really pretty good. We've also used a Verizon MiFi, and it works pretty well too. Both are much better than HughesNet. If your contract is up with Hughes net, it's probably a good time to get out, and look for other options.

To socketsystem, we seriously considered it for our house. But once I started pricing out components, it was easier and considerably cheaper to just do a modified post and beam construction like what First Day Cottage uses.
