It would help to know what area you're in - but at my Farmer's Market, there are 2 people that offer milk/goat/cow shares. They are not cheap - $22 a month last time I asked. I trade with an Amish friend and it is much cheaper.... Depends on your area.

What kind of area? I would just go asking the neighbours, personally. Someone who has sheep or goats already would probably be happy to go in on a milk goat with you or share some of their milk with you. I'm sure you have something you can trade in return.

A friendly barter agreement is always better than paying market price or joining "programs", IMO.

Or get yourself your own dairy sheep, they need very little pasture, produce less milk than goats and it is super creamy and nutritious (7%). Great for cheese and doesn't separate. I am totally getting a dairy sheep next year to turn my yard grasses into milk.

I would recommend coming down to the goat forum and asking if there is anyone in your area...lots of thengoat folks know each other in real life and know where the other goat-milking folks are.

You could also call a couple of mom and pop feed stores if there are any close to you and ask if theybknow of anyone.

Try the Weston A. Price Foundation site. www.realmilk.com
If goat/cow shares are legal (pertaining to raw milk) in your state I'm sure you will find a farmer who offers these shares.
Also, look here http://www.localharvest.org/ and see if there is any info.

Regulations differ State by State. Are you sure you can't legally purchase raw milk from a farmer where you live? Here in OK we can sell milk out the door, but the customer has to come and get it. There is no requirement that the milk be pasteurized, though most do so in order to reduce the possibility of frivolous law suits.

Farmer's markets? There's two people at my TINY farmer's market that offer shares in various meat animals. But the prices were(to me) crazy high, so I declined.

Laura, if you're in IL, then selling raw milk is legal. Check out realmilk.com
