Looks like some kind of mole cricket to me. We have them here in FL; they look like they are made from spare parts.

You Missouri and North Carolina folks seem to know about them.
I have spent a little time in NC but I have spent a LOT of time in MO and I sure have never seen anything like that critter.
What eats them?

That is a mole cricket ! They feed on grasses and roots and can really devour a nice florida lawn during the night. They are great diggers and they even make a loud chirp at night....My cat has dug them up early in the morning. They are really ugly...

Ha! I was just showing my great niece how to catch them yesterday. She's 4 and had never seen one. We were walking and I saw the hole. You poke a grass stalk down the hole, wait til they start pushing it up, then right when they get close to the top you give it a little yank They make great fish bait too.
