Greenhouse Idea and Questions

I have a very heavy canopy/garage (metal iron frame only - 12x30x9 I think it is). It is something like this: http://www.shelter-solution.com/prem...opy-12x30.html

I was thinking of using the frame to make a greenhouse but would need to reinforce it for wind, roof load snows, ice, etc. What would be an easy and economical way of doing that?

I'm thinking of using greenhouse poly plastic film to cover it, but wondering how to best attach the film? Also, what would you do for the roof? How would you frame for a door, vents, fan, etc.?

I'm a real novice at this and funds are limited. I always wanted a greenhouse and thinking this might be a way.

I would think about framing the bottom of the structure in wood and adding a wiggle wire system for attaching the plastic. http://www.johnnyseeds.com/p-8923-wiggle-wire.aspx

You could also frame out the ends with wood to add doors and windows.

Basically treat it like a hoop house or high tunnel.

I used the frame from the same deal and built a lean-too out of it. It's on the south side of our pole barn. I got the plastic at Farmteck. I fastened the plastic along the top to a wood "rail" then sandwiched the top part of the plastic with another strip of wood screwed to that. The bottem just lays on the ground with landscape ties on then bales of straw. I had to buy good clear tape to make the end nice where I built a wooden door. It held fine thru last winter and has done fine all summer. I'll soon be planting out there, but a broody hen is in there now with chicks(and the weeds).

I like the leanto idea. Gives you 2 greenhouses. Would need the south side of a building to attach it to. I would use boards on the bottom to give stability and make a raised bed. The side towards the building would have the bench for trays. Door through attached building so you don't lose heat going in and out. Double cell greenhouse panels on ends for rigidity. Greenhouse plastic over the top that drops down for easy ventilation above the raised bed wood structure. If standalone, it needs good base to anchor to. Same raised beds down both sides and end, except door, to make structure rigid. Center bench for trays. Frame the ends in with lumber, cedar or redwood, door, ventilation window in one end and louvered fan opposite....James

Spiral anchors and ratchet strap tie downs work well and withstand heavy winds.
