snowblower question

What's the difference between and auger driven and wheel driven snowblower? Is one better than the other or easier to use? I believe it has about 8.5 hp if that makes a difference.

Thanks,

Jan

My snow blower is driven by the wheels with a separate control - so I can move the blower without the auger turning - it has a foreward and reverse capability - the auger has it own control - if it is auger driven how can you move the blower around without the auger turning - you can't - I don't think that would be good -

I think they are the same thing. It moves by the wheels but the auger throws the snow.

I can't think of any blower that would be driven by the auger, They are driven by the wheels , or Human power by pushing. LOL
Now there is a Single Stage vs Two stage.
Single means the auger spins real fast Throwing the snow out.
And Two Stage means a separate fan or blower that is behind the auger throwing the snow out.
But all are driven by the wheels, unless pushed by human power.

I have used a 4 HP blower with rubber blades on the auger. When the blades scraped the sidewalk, they moved the blower forward. Now that I have a big driveway to blow, I use a two stage blower with powered wheels. It's much better.
