Red face My tongue hurts so bad!!!!!

Well I have been eating so many "grape" tomatoes my tongue has acid burn. Oh they taste sooooo good. I eat them morning noon and night. I'm starting to get sores on my cheeks. As I type this munching on juicy luscious small tomatoes. Cursed wonderful fruits. How wonderful they taste. I wish I could stop eating them. But they call me, beckon me to come chomp there little flesh and enjoy their sweet tasting juice. Oh how I love the tomatoes.

I'm not sure if there is a 12 step program for that or not.

be careful with too many of them and he side effects.

If tomatoes are an acid - I wonder if an occasional mouth wash of weak baking soda water would help offset the tongue burn.

That brings back good (maybe I'm masochistic?!?) memories, lol. When I was growing up living in California, we lived in the middle of an 80-acre tomato field, had 20 acres of lemon trees behind that, a dozen orange trees running beside the house, and traded with our neighbors for grapefruit. I had constant sores in my mouth, especially my cheeks! But I couldn't stop myself, no matter how bad it got, because they were SO good!

We also had neighbors we traded with for avocados and strawberries, yum! I sure miss those days!

I used to gargle with half water, half hydrogen peroxide several times a day, which did seem to help with the pain. Good luck!

You have sores in your mouth? If it's causing that kind of damage to your mouth and you're still eating more of them anyway I sure hate to think of the damage and possible ulcers you're inflicting on your insides.

Mmmm! Slow yourself down, find a couple of recipes for alternative-to-raw cherry tomatoes (I like to roast them and toss with pasta or rice). That way you are least getting a little variety.

If you hear a little noise inside your head it's your kidneys screaming at you to turn down the acidity level. I'm not a good person to offer advice on this because I crave any food/beverage that is citrus. I try to moderate with watermelon, apples, and bananas. If my internals would allow it I could easily exist on fresh squeezed orange juice, tomato sandwiches, lemon/lime beverages and pineapple upside down cake.

I do the same thing with fresh pineapple, it's so good I can't stop.

This reminds me of a bit in a book where a lady, tired of winter, sees the first sign of spring in her garden - little green onions. She eats one and it is so good, before she knows it, she has eaten an entire row. Later that night she has a stomach ache and her DH panics thinking she is really ill. She has to confess, between belches, to eating too many green onions. Later she says "It was worth it."

Nah.. unless your esophagus is damaged from GERD you should be fine.

A mouthful of plain yogurt should do the trick. If you find you're getting canker sores a ton, it's also helpful to take acidophilus and cut down on sugar.

I love tomatoes and feel your pain!!

Be advised high acid food is BAD for the teeth. I have family members who are having trouble today because of it.

I never had any of the side effects y'all are talking about, except for the mouth sores...just lucky I guess or young and healthy enough to counteract it. I was just 15-1/2 when we moved from there. All that citric acid might really tear me up these days, lol!
