I have been to Snow lake Manitoba. It's about 30 miles south of Lynn Lake but you have to go east to Thompson and then back west to Lynn Lake. If I remember right it was over a hundred miles to go 30 as the crow flies.
I camped at the provincial campground at Lake Wekusko. The lake doesn't look that big on a map but it is huge. We got into a bay with cabbage weed along the shore and caught 8 to 10 pound northerns on every second cast. This is the only time my arms ever got tired from hauling in fish. We landed on one side of the bay and explored an old gold mine. There were old steam engines and other pieces of equipment lying around. It would have cost more to take the equipment out when the mine played out than the equipment was worth.
This is definantly unlike anything in the states. Way closer to wilderness than we are used to. Imagine, the road closes for the winter. You better have preps. Metal becomes really brittle in the cold. A piece that looks really strong can shatter like glass.
Sorry but it's cold enough right where I am. Fun to read about his exploits.
