Living year round in 3 tents

This video is amazing about a couple who have left the luxury lifestyle to get back to nature. They live in 3 tents, but what is so amazing is that it is WAY far from camping and could be a great alternative (even if you had to scale it down) for anyone wanting inexpensive country living in a mild climate.

Really interesting. But I imagine pricey. Those kind of tents don't come cheap.

LOL! You must not have watched the video.

They aren't pre-made tents; in fact, they aren't really tents at all; rather you make/configure your own framing, framing materials, recycled windows and doors, etc. - and then it's covered in vinyl sheeting. He does use canvas for the roof (then covered with a vinyl canopy) so it can breath. Probably so it doesn't get like a greenhouse in there, but I'm sure other ways of configuring that could be done as well.

This guy has the money to get pretty upscale with it, but the basic idea is making a permanent home inexpensively (and out of recycled materials), live off the grid, united with nature, live frugally, and still have an awful lot of modern day conveniences. It could easily be scaled down for regular folks on a tight budget.

This would really be a good idea for a larger family, or for those who like the idea of tent living, but not crazy about the idea of camping full-time.

................Kinda reminds me of a Japanese concept........bamboo bungleo , except he's using vinyl cover for the exterior ! I'd build a steel\pipe canopy over the structures to prevent large tree limbs from giving me a headache . That place is also subject to the brush fires that destroy so many homes on hillsides . I hope he has a nice gravel road to use for ingress\egress in a hurry . , fordy

What makes this a tent. I see a vinyl sheathed, basically post and beam house. It would be just as easy and more durable to just cover it with pole barn metal.

CUTE, with merit. Some problems come to mind. Among them being a wayward teen with a sturdy pocket knife, but I do like the concept.

Some live in tents, some live in yurts. Just another alternative depending upon your climate.

Living in a tent

Maybe I'm a little spoiled but I don't think I could live in a storage tent. What do you when the weather turns nasty, windy, and cold. I guess you would call that "roughing it". I love the outdoors but my house is great also.

Looks great, and all that... but the lack of security would be my main concern (wind, fire, vandalism, etc.). I would not be able to sleep soundly, knowing that my home could be silently breached with a box cutter.

If I had $20,000. and a piece of land in a Very Mild climate, that would be great!

Unfortunately, I don't and very soon I will be living in a tent too. Just one small tent out on my moms land in very cold weather. Oh, the joy of homelessness.

This could get interesting.

You're thinking too civilized, rain will help with that and is simple like a tent.

I don't want to live in a tent, but I like the divided spaces. I would consider something like that with solid buildings. Could be a way to get around building permits too, if you keep each building small enough.

Here we have Britten Banners and Event Solutions.
It is a company that does banners for a lot of companies.
They also do what they call Display Tents and they would build those very same units like the first one was.
If you wanted anything printed on it from text to landscapes that is no problem.
About six years ago when I was working there as a temp worker they were making all new banners for every Target store plus a huge NASCAR order had to be out the same day. Yes, Those huge banners they have at the tracks come from a company in Traverse City, Michigan.

That tent with the wooden framing in it,,,,,,,
Britten would make the cover but you would have to make the frame.
I have lots of their defective Vinyl tarps.
I have found I can join them together with PVC glue only if I also use the cleaner too.

Nice if you have lots of money and live where you don't need heat 9 months out of the year.

Buffy,

I am sorry that you will soon be living in a tent. Do you have a job so that you could save up and get a decent camper?
