Barn Pump Handle Question

.We have a "pull up" pump handle for water in our barn. A few years ago we had a new water line put in from the house the barn due to a break in that line. A new pump handle was installed and now we notice that we only get a very small amount of water coming from the pump. There is no water pressue problem from the house as another pump runs just fine. Is there "something" to adjust in the handle of pump to increase the water flow ??

Are you talking about a freeze proof hydrant????????????? If so you can adjust the stroke length so it will open more.

See if there is a valve in the water line that is not completely open and check the stroke length of the frost free hydrant as Wand a suggested.

Underneith your handle should be a threaded rod that goes on top the hydrant. By turning the nut on the rod clockwise, you should increase the flow.

The handle can only move a set amount when you lift it up and you want it to be opening the valve for the water instead of taking up slack. It could also be slipping on the rod if it only uses a set screw . Lift the handle and look closely where the handle pivots and you will see a round rod attached that goes down the center of the pipe. This rod has the valve at the bottom that lets water flow up the pipe. The more the rod comes up the more it will let the water flow.

If you can't adjust it from on top, shut off the valve to that line and wrench the handle assembly off the pipe. Pull the rod, and adjust the stopper on the end. It doesn't take much adjustment to get it going full strength. Too much adjustment and it'll drip.
