I bought a "Bearcat" 5.5 HP chipper/shredder from a Craigslist listing last year and was delighted with it until just a few days ago. I had it sitting on an open side porch and moved it to chip up a pile of pruned branches; there is a maybe 4" drop from the porch to adjacent concrete walkway and I pushed the unit off without being extremely cautious about the "bump" from that amount of drop. It *seemed* like very solid sheet metal construction throughout... then a few feet down the walk, it tilted over and started binding up on the single axle it rolls along; the metal extensions that the axle mounts on had crumpled up! What'd they do, contract out some components to the cheapest bid in China for eventual assembly in Fargo, ND? Anyway, I've found I can move it by using a heavy refrigerator dolly, using its wheels and axle in effect, instead. Have to prop the thing up now with several rocks or whatever to use it, though. Figure I may have to find a local metalworker to weld something like this dolly's axle and wheels onto an over-engineered redone mounting bracket, or just keep using it like this, trying not to have to move it very far.
Anyway, maybe somebody reading this can learn from my experience and be suitably cautious moving their chipper around.
