Update on engine

The insurance company wasn't willing to rebuild the entire engine because there is no way to tell if the block is cracked until they take it apart (again, my ignorance is showing...figured the block was part of what would be rebuilt but what do I know?) so we agreed to a used engine and an extended warranty that includes the power train (whatever that is). We would have been given a one year warranty on the engine but Toyota was willing to offer a two year and their insurance company agreed to it.

Best we could do - I figure that's as good as it gets without raising a stink (which really isn't in my nature (unless you are poisoning my kids ) ) so we get the van back Friday. I kinda enjoyed that brand spanking new car with all the bells and whistles but am completely unwilling to make a car payment for another bazillion years so at least I will be able to tote my goats again here shortly!

Thanks for the help!

Atta' girl!

Power train is external to the engine, so you came out ahead there. Two years is a dang good warranty on a used engine.

The block holds everything together. Cracks are bad.

2yrs & full drivetrain is good.

Glad you got a decent end result. Two years is really good. Best wishes with the engine.

Sounds like a reasonable outcome for all.

Drivetrain is basically all the parts between the engine and the wheels, that make you move. Transmission, drive axles, etc.

I was lurking in the original thread while many of the regulars I respect a lot said some things that I thought were not in character. I'm sorry you had to experience that. The other yahoos, well they're just yahoos. And, to be fair, you did get some good advice too.

Personally, I would consider the outcome to be way above what I thought they would offer. Congrats!

That's what I'm also thinking. With all of the automotive scams around, getting something better is definitely not the norm. Sounds strictly like a PR thing although one insurance company now is offering a one-year upgrade for any totalled vehicle.
