Buckingham Blitz Jack Russel Terrier trials
Went to my first JRT trials this weekend and had a blast. I have an older dog and this was his first show. The first day was pretty much confusion for him but by today he started figuring things out. First off I now know that racing is not his event LOL!. He did well in lure coursing both days but didn't have blazing speeds. He took first place in novice go-to-ground today, he had a decent showing in trailing and tracking considering the fact that it rained on and off all morning. By far his best showing was in the barn hunt, coming in third against some very good dogs. The last three events all use a live rat in a cage. I can see that these are the events for him.
I was surprised to see how big an event this was. There were people and dogs there from Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, New York, South Carolina, Missouri, Colorado, Saskatchewan, Winnipeg, and Quebec. And at least one locally owned dog who was born in Scotland.
If anyone is interested in going to one of these shows there is going to be a "fun show" in Sommerset Wisconsin next Saturday and a trial at the same place in September.

Wow Tinknal, that sounds cool. I'd like more info if you can give it to me. I'd like to get into that if they have anything like that down this way in Oklahoma/Arkansas area. I have one rat terrior that loves treeing squirrels and really races around the yard happily when you pet him. I've oftern wondered what he would be like competing in some of those dog shows if he was trainned.

And three weeks ago 5 miles from where I live there was a Huge Retriever Trials. The National Amateur Retriever Championship. Dogs from all over were there, and this went on for 6 Days. It was a very big deal.

I don't know it the rat terrier people have there own shows but the JRT shows have classes for "colored terriers" that you could show your non-JRT small terriers.

I'd love to see pics of both your alls dogs. I lost my beloved Jack to cancer almost 2 years ago.
So I got a rat terrier but she is more like a mouse terrier. I'm trying to train her on mice but right now she thinks they come out of cages and then you hunt them. Not, find them in the hay first and then kill them.
Anyways, it sounds really neat and if you have any pics can you share?

I have a good friend in CO that has raised/shown Manchester Terriers for years at the regular AKC shows but she's also done some of the Terrier trials as well. She says they are lots of fun and some of the dogs really get into it.

The short answer is you don't. The events are geared toward stuff the dogs want to do. Mostly run fast, chase things, and get vermin.
