Question Kansans, what do you think about this?

There appears to be a bill that "
Quote:
House Bill No. 2366, a proposed law that would make it illegal to use “public funds to promote or implement sustainable development.”
in Kansas... Opps -- this was an article on Bloomberg from April, has it passed?

Quote:
Now the state’s “Committee on Energy and Environment” is proposing a law that would prohibit spending on anything that won’t set Kansas on a course to self-destruction. House Bill No. 2366 would ban all state and municipal funds for anything related to “sustainable development,” which it defines as: “development in which resource use aims to meet human needs while preserving the environment so that these needs can be met not only in the present, but also for generations to come."
A friend posted this, & I was quite interested in it after receiving a call from Lynn Jenkins today & listening to a phone conference thing she does. She mentioned that Kansas would be energy independent in 5 years, but didn't mention exactly HOW. I have read lots on this forum about sustainability, alternative energy sources, etc., & I wonder why Kansas is not taking advantage of the huge potential for wind &/or solar energy technology...

Quote:
Kansas has the wind-energy potential of 3,102 terawatt hours a year, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. That’s about 80 percent of the annual electricity consumption of the entire United States. If Kansas developed just a tiny fraction of that -- 7,158 megawatts -- by 2030, it would provide economic benefits of about $7.8 billion for the state, according to the Energy Department’s National Renewable Energy Lab.

I have seen several wind turbines popping up at some farms, so I know some Kansans are doing it. It just seems shameful & wasteful to me to NOT use wind or solar power, especially when it could give so many people like those on this forum energy independence, and create so many jobs! Anyone know anything about this?

Oh I'd heard about the bill when it was making it's rounds, and I don't think it passed.

The way the bill was worded made our state officials sound like a bunch of donkeys. They weren't even smart enough to thinly veil their intentions (guess that's why they're only state officials and not federal ones) to try to kill the sustainable energy market in our state.

There are several giant wind farms in Kansas. The most obvious one is the one you see when you drive through the Flint Hills in NE KS. Our governor is an idiot. We are not planning to vote for him on the next round. Oklahoma also has several wind farms too.
