Good prepaid calling card?

Can anyone recommend a good calling card for my land line phone?

I just bought a card from NobelCom. The saleswoman assured me that the 763 number she gave me was toll free and that my phone company would not charge me. I just called my phone company and found out that I am being charged for using that long distance number.

I called NobelCom and they gave me a number to use that charges me an additional minute per minute. They don't give refunds.

Why are you using a card? I had I think Pioneer years ago--I honestly don't remember the company but that sounds like it--maybe. I only called in the US but it was really cheap. I prepaid then used my balance; when it got low, I recharged. When I no longer needed it, they gave me a refund. (I really do wish I knew what company I used--LOVED THEM!) And I just dialed out from my landline--I didn't call any special number.

Do some research!

I use a card because my phone company charges something like $.14 per minute for long distance so I only get local phone service from them.

I switched my LD carrier to another company. My phone company didn't charge me a dime; I paid the other company. Perhaps it's changed.

I use Freedom Star which is now Telrite Corp. I pay 2.3 cents a minute with no other access fees. I don't have to dial any special number -- just 1 + the number I want to dial. They also have pre-paid cards. http://www.telrite.com/services/longdistance/

We gave up on paying for long distance about 2 years ago on our land line.

Google Voice - free long distance calls to anywhere in the US and Canada

You don't have to use all the bells and whistles, it will just let you use the free long distance part. It is slightly complicated to sign up (or was for me) but for free who can complain.

Haven't used it in a few years but Western Union used to have a decent one.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I just checked Google Voice and ran across a complaint from a guy who got a $770 bill after his calls were improperly routed.

We were using a calling card too, but the company discontinued to issue reload time. We spoke with Verizon about going totally wireless, which would include our cell phones and a house phone and Internet. The house phone had limited long distance for only $20 more than our cell phones. However the house phone would be strictly for the house, but includes voice mail, call forwarding, call waiting, conference calling and caller ID.
Whenever DH called our local phone company to tell them we were dropping our land line, they just so happened to have this plan for unlimited long distance, and all the above features for just a few dollars more. Now I can only guess why they don't notify their customer base of things like this. It's because as long as they can get .12 a minute for long distance, they will, but whenever a customer calls to tell them they're dropping their land line, then they'll tell their customer. So, you might check with you land line phone company to see what they might have to offer that you might not know about.

I have used Onesuite for years: http://onesuite.com/

You dial an 800 # and then the # you wish to call, so you can use it anywhere. It's less than 3 cents a minute & foreign calls are cheap, too. I buy $10 worth of minutes about every 6 months.

With the number of people who use Google voice, if you only found 1 complaint then Google must be doing something right.

I told my LL phone company to hit the road jack and don't ever come back. I have a no contract phone from ATT. Every day I use it I pay only $2 to talk all day to anyone anywhere. I spend $15 a month.

I have an air card for my 'puter. It is $50 for 5 GB a month.
