We were using a calling card too, but the company discontinued to issue reload time. We spoke with Verizon about going totally wireless, which would include our cell phones and a house phone and Internet. The house phone had limited long distance for only $20 more than our cell phones. However the house phone would be strictly for the house, but includes voice mail, call forwarding, call waiting, conference calling and caller ID.
Whenever DH called our local phone company to tell them we were dropping our land line, they just so happened to have this plan for unlimited long distance, and all the above features for just a few dollars more. Now I can only guess why they don't notify their customer base of things like this. It's because as long as they can get .12 a minute for long distance, they will, but whenever a customer calls to tell them they're dropping their land line, then they'll tell their customer. So, you might check with you land line phone company to see what they might have to offer that you might not know about.
