Has anyone tried this kind of fridge before?

if you have enough water flow to drive a wheel,,you sure can produce some amount of power..then run the fridge/freezer.

whats your power source now ?

I assume this is one of the ones that uses ammonia as coolant? I saw one at an antique shop in Beaufort, NC about 15-20 years ago. If I saw one now, I'd grab it. just a big honkin' iron contraption. Thinking of trying to build one.

Modern fridges keep food at 40 degrees or colder. I would be afraid to keep something that spoils quickly, like ground beef, in the cold box.

For refridgeration out in the boonies I have a propane powered fridge that uses ammonia as the refrigerant. The propane flame is only a bit bigger than a pilot light so maybe you could run an ammonia fridge on something like solar that generates a small amount of heat? It has a freezer so I can make ice cubes for the cooler but ice cream is really really soft.

There 'are' plans out there... Home Power Magazine had one a few years back. Looked it up.... Homepower Issue #53 June/July 1976.
