Iron water filter.

I have to fill a 20' above ground pool.

Last time it was just straight from the hose, and we ended up battling clearing out iron all summer, with not the greatest success. We were constantly changing pool filters, trying different clarification chemicals.

Is there a filtering system, that could be put in palace, during filling?

I'm checking Menards right now.

This always brings up a bunch of suggestions that won't work. There are two types of possible iron forms plus the potential presence of bacteria. You need a water test. Do you have ferric and or ferrous iron in the water? Can you see it or is it "clear" iron?

"Iron can occur in water in a number of different forms. The type of iron present is important when considering water treatment. Water that comes out of the faucet clear, but turns red or brown after standing is “ferrous” iron, commonly referred to as “clear-water” iron. Water which is red or yellow when first drawn is “ferric” iron, often referred to as “red- water” iron. Iron can form compounds with naturally occurring acids, and exist as “organic” iron. Organic iron is usually yellow or brown, but may be colorless. Water containing iron bacteria is said to contain “bacterial” iron."

That's a lot of water to filter in a short time.

Here's one of those suggestions that may not work. It's a good theory if nothing else.

Fill the pond, aerate the heck out of it for a day or two to oxidize the iron, remove the aeration, let the rust settle to the bottom and vacuum it out of the pool with a bottom pool cleaner. Then turn on your regular filter to remove the rest.

Chlorine bleach will make some iron settle out. Experiment with a 5 gal. bucket to get an idea of the dosage.
