Few pictures would help.

Then, do you have a use for the building as it is, or would a different shape/ size of building work much easier for you?

Are you good at construction, or would you have to hire it done?

What was it origionally built to do
Whats the worst that is wrong with it
What size is it
What is an estimate for fixing it up
Did you know that each state nearly has a fund for the restoration of historical barns. They don't do it all, but they give substantial amounts for the preservation of historical barns and outbuildings.

Is salvage material worth more than labor to get it? If you have more time than money salvage can be your friend.

Depending on the condition there are companies that specialize in salvaging old barns. The materials are reused in some high end home renovations and furnushings. They sometimes pay or at least you might get the sight cleared at no cost to you.

If still usable without major repairs, then fix. Otherwise, if you take it apart piece by piece, I think you could sell the "barn board" for some pretty good money. Then use the money to rebuild. About $3-$5 a foot for siding, and much more per foot for beams. There are a bunch of sites on the internet selling this for good money.

Check in your area to see if you would have to have a demolition, or burning permit to get rid of a taxable property.... sometimes you also have to have it laying on the ground or it might be considered arson.

You might also sell it via Craigslist or something to someone else with the stipulation they tear it down by thus and such a date or it will be burned.

There is a pretty good demand for old barn wood. If you have tools you may want to save some to make picture frames and cabinets with it. I built a butler's pantry with a Sub Zero incorporated in it for a doctor's wife out of the old weathered barn wood. I thought it would look bad but it turned out looking really good.

Old lumber is in high demand, but a lot of it is just in too poor of condition to be used. I hear from folk fairly regularly that want me to tear down their barn and sell their wood but upon inspection it's generally not worth the labor of tearing it down.

Often though there are corner pieces and a stout center beam which can be worth quite a bit but after you pay someone 30 hours of labor to tear it down then you'll be in the hole.

Interested to know:

What type of wood is this?
What is the best way to clean/restore and preserve for reuse..?
What is the best way to store the wood, as I can't build until October...

Thx!
