Resoling boots

Has anyone over resoled their boots on their own? I always buy American made boots which are expensive and the soles wear out long befor the rest of the boot does. I know I can have them done by a proofessional but really dont want to spend 80.00 plus dollars to have it done if it is something I could do myself

I have several pairs of everyday cowboy boots. They cost about 40.00 to resole and look like new when I get them back.

Where did you buy the supplies? Was it difficult to do and did they hold together?

I used an awl and dental floss (waxed cord used to be to sew up some. Think it lasted about 10 months more. The pros use special glue plus sewing on an industrial machine.

I got my supplies online. Then I was interested in more than just resoling and so put together a tool collection that allows me to make boots or shoes. From awls to pliers to lasts. Thread, wax, needles.........you get the point. You can try checking ebay, craigslist as well as online shoe making/supply companies.
