Any Homesteaders play....

Guitar or any other instruments? I have a few friends in the area that play guitar, and they like to come over and play on the front porch. Just wondering if anyone else likes to play? And if so, what kind of music?

I play acoustic guitar, mostly Americana, Country, and Southern Rock. I have a Seagull electric/acoustic and a Gibson acoustic.

I enjoy a little guitar pickin' now and again. Some dulcimer & hammer dulcimer, though it has been a while. I have an Alverez 60 classical guitar, which is actually pretty good with the folk/bluegrass sound. Except for the guitar, I've built the instruments that I play. The great part of having a sawmill is that I get first pick of the wood. Hard part is waiting a year for the wood to season. If you're ever in southwest Missouri, drop me a line!

Here's a link to my not-so-famous Youtube music video.

I used to pick a little, but I don't even have a guitar anymore. I'm strictly a vocalist these days. My little brother is a talented dude, though. He plays acoustic and has recently picked up the banjo. I was once famous for my Star Spangled Banner in these parts once upon a time, but I haven't had many opportunities of late (I've got far too much going to spend all that time traveling). I was the go-to girl during rodeo season back in the day.

I've got family near Table Rock, I don't think that's very far from SW MO.

I play drums. Been playing for about twenty years. Mostly southern rock, and country. Highlight of my career, got to open up for Exile at our county fair. Still play at least four hours a week, no band though, just not enough time. Also play doghouse bass. Youngest son is learning fiddle.

My husband plays guitar & bass & I play keyboard and sing. We mainly do contemporary worship but we are very interested in Symphonic Metal and want to branch out into that.

I used to play a lot, but let it fall by the wayside. I should get back into it. The Guild D-50 needs a visit with the guitar repairman for a new bridge.

Big fan of John Prine, Dylan, Cracker, and stuff like that.

Here's a new boy wonder out of Oklahoma. John Fullbright. He's 24 or something and has the skills.

That is a great song, John Fullbright is getting pretty popular down here in Texas.

Husband-banjo, myself-guitar....purely for our enjoyment (country, bluegrass, folk, etc). Hoping to get our grandchildren interested in playing with us as they get older. We got the perfect place to play (log cabin porch)...just wish we were better! (working on it!)

I taught myself to play an old, old ukalale (mispelled) when in early teens just so my sister and I could sing on stage. In my teen years I taught myself to play an acoustic guitar (non-electric) again so my sister and I could sing on stage. (We were actually offered our own television show during those high school years and, would you believe, we turned it down!)

During early adulthood I bought myself a classical and, with the help of books, taught myself to play it. Still have that old Yara, yet haven't played in years. May one day I'll pick it up...I did recently get some new strings.

I just went out the other day and trade some stuff for a Fender Dobro (and other things as well) and am absolutely in love with it. I've played for way to long to be as bad as I am at it but I still enjoy it. I play mostly guitar (blues-rock) but I played bass in a jazz band and have been to known to play ukelele and banjo upon occasion same with drums and piano.

I haven't a musical gene in my body, but DH is an incredible guitar player. If he's not gardening or doing something on our land he is playing his guitar. Not working is amazing for great leaps in musical ability! He doesn't play with others, although he plays when friends come over. When my MIL visits she always says it's like having a concert everyday, it adds a lot to life. But I love the idea of gathering on the porch playing. Our neighbors are a little far away though.

My DSon has my electric Bass. But, I do have two Acoustic guitars in the house, that I play once in a while. And I get to jam with friends very infrequently.
One of my guitars is an Alvaress Artist model Classic guitar, with nylon strings. It's great for finger picking. if you know the "finger rolls & rhythms.
And I have a Fender Jumbo, 12-string guitar. It's a great rhythm guitar with a really full sound. It's a little harder to play, and you need to keep your hands in good shape to do it justice. Flat-picking sounds great on it.
At my age, 73, I'm lucky the old arthritis hasn't slowed me down, yet.
ETA.......... I can still play & sing over 200 Folk songs and a few Country tunes, too.

I have a hundred year old Tenor banjo too, that I've had for maybe 40 years. I cheat by tuning it like the high 4 strings on a guitar and playing it that way. Much easier than learning a whole new instrument.

playing

Oldjohn~ using different tunings is something lots of folks don't get into. You can get a differen't sound from most stringed instruments by just tuning it differently. Yrs ago I used the "high 3rd" tuning a lot on accoustic guitar when play single. It gives a 12-string sound, (almost.) I have a Les Paul lp100 made by the "other" company after Gibson bought them out. Wish I could swap it for some homestead item/s.

We are a household of musicians and big jazz fans. I play classical piano, woodwinds and some percussion. Big Band and Swing music are my favorite styles to lay with others. Our youngest daughter fronts a jazz band as a vocalist, but she also plays flute, bassoon, bass guitar, tenor saxophone and African percussion.

I'd love to learn to play the stand up bass, but we don't own one and I'm NOT trying to go into debt to buy one right now!

I used to play the flute, but gave it to my daughter when she learned to play.
