Ideas on Grinders

I'm wanting to get a grinder for our farm and have been looking at some. I want to hook it up to the bicycle. I want to grind corn, wheat and other items for cooking. What do you guys have?

What in the heck kind of FARM grinder would you power with a bicycle?????

I have a Wetmore grinder that runs off of a belt. It is nearly the smallest width FARM grinder they made. If I don't set the gate at the throat of the table and schovel a scoop full of wheat or oats in it, Ital dog down a 30hp tractor a bit. IF I force a thick leaf of hay in it, when it finally bites and takes it, It might throw the belt or kill the tractor. THEN I HAVE A MESS.

Check out pleasanthillgrain.com as well.

There are YouTube directions for hooking it up, I just searched on bicycle powered grain mills.

Good luck. Puerto Rico is a beautiful place

For small-scale kitchen use, a 'Back to Basics' stainless steel grinder works well.

Depends on whether you need a Mack truck or a wheel barrow, grinder wise. This is the Mack truck of kichen grinders. Yes, it can be driven with a bicycle or a motor. I think Lehmans is the only source in this country.

I have a small corona mill I use for grinding grain for making beer. I grind 10-15 lbs of grain in a few minutes using a drill to run it. If you're just doing small batches (less than 50 lbs at a time) I would recommend this. It ran about thirty bucks.

I have a grinder for my animals corn that could easily be hooked up to peddle power. I been using it about 5 years running it with a DC motor(that came of a childs battery scooter) that runs off the solar panels. I did modify it so it would crack corn adjusted all the way open and grind decent all the way in but not as fine as Flour.

I have a burr coffee grinder I use for everyday-type flour grinding and a Retsel mill for when I want to do a lot of grain. The Retsel can convert from electric to manual. It's slow and has stones. The coffee grinder - though not cheap - is much faster.

Thank you guys for all the great information you have given. We want to get back to nature and live off the land, growing and making the majority of our food.
