cream seperator

I found one! an antique one that is. It is dirty but sound and rust free. The owner tripped over it as I was walking by and decided he was going to get rid of it. $30 later and it was mine. It has everything (and some extras like the strainer which he thought was the base) except the base/crank handle. I'll post a photo of the brand (sears)cream seperator - Homesteading Questions
So:

-how hard would it be to get the base? (or could I make one?)
-if I clean it well would it be safe to use on my milk?
-would it work on sheep's milk?

Thanks,
Lambs

if its like the one in the photo, the base is a countertop. you bolt the unit down and away you go. I've got a delavel jr just like yours but I need new guts for it, they were tin and have some rust on them. if you have questions you might pm heritage farms (think that's the right guy) he restores separators.

We had one of those back in the EARLY 60s. We had had a MW floor model, but it rapped out. Likely dad was too cheap to keep it oiled. The one, like the one above he got, had a couple teeth stripped off. Likely the original owner didn't keep it oiled either. We finally stripped out around a doz teeth, and that was the end of that. We kept the bowl for a tropugh and junked the rest.
