Can you Identify this Breed Please?

Sad thing...but I believe this dog was dumped near my house a couple days ago. Very sweet boy. He listens very well, loves attention and car rides, follows along as I chore, and doesn't chase the poultry and livestock. His cries sound like those of a pup. I know he is a mixed dog but any ideas on the mixes? Friends are telling me part pit which had me a little concerned. Thank you.

sad....he looks a bit stocky and short...probably some pit in there. But don't judge him on that.....if you keep him, just call him a mutt. I am certain you would train him right......

He looks like he's eager to be your friend. That's awesome! I'll bet with a little training he'd be a great companion and would work well on your farm. I'm jealous because I can't have a dog in my apt. right now.

From the white on his chest and the tips of his toes I would say he has a little border collie. As for the other he looks more boxer than pit to me. I have a pit/lab that "lives" with me (when his owners are out of town for work). Buddy is nothing but loveable.

Give your new friend lots of love and training and he will repay you over and over again

His white chest looks boxer like and his head does look like a pitt. But he's obviously a mix, hopefully all the best parts! Although pitts always make me nervous I have several friends whose pitts are super sweet, smart, very eager to please.

Glad he fell into your hands! Sad that so many people seem to think pets are disposable.

Yes, Terrabus and Little Bit Red...he is eager to be my friend...so at least temporarily (unless owners claim him) he's been named "Cowboy." I have so many dogs already, though...but must admit this is one special guy! LOL. He's the only one I'd trust to roam free, assist with chores, and take traveling with me. It'll be "cowboy's" choice whether to stay...or whether to go. Guess, we'll see...

It would be helpful to know what size he is. How high is he at the shoulder? Body length? Weight?

With that coloring and facial markings he looks like he might be part golden mastiff.

Thanks to all of you for the responses. I kind of thought he might have boxer in him as well as pit.

Please, take him to your vet or animal control officer and have him scanned for a chip. And put the word out, in the paper and at various vet's offices, that you've found this nice dog. Someone's heart might be breaking that their beloved pet wandered off or was taken. Think how you'd feel if it was your dog.

If you've already done all this, know that it's good karma. He's a handsome boy!

Horseyrider, thank you for your feedback, too! You are spot on...if it were my dog I'd want to know somebody did everything they could. I called the county and the police because when he arrived he had my Pyrs and livestock all wound up! Not that he was chasing or anything...just a strange being here. But because I'm not within the city limits they wouldn't send anyone out. For that reason, I've kind of been stuck. I even asked what if I drove him to the city...they said NO, Maam it doesn't work that way. I have placed ads all over our local facebook, in the paper, and taken the dog to the local auctions with me. I haven't taken him yet to the vets office for chip check but will do so. There is probably 250 acres of currently empty dirt across the street which is where this dog came from. My Pyrs would have been going nuts if they would have seen him running about in those acres! I highly suspect he was dumped on the highly traveled two lane road I live on. It's very unfortunate, but likely true. Nonetheless, I will keep trying in the event I am wrong...

Aw he looks like such a sweetheart, and young, too. The one feature that looks typically "pitbull" is his ears, and honestly to make a pit's ears stand up they are clipped as a pup, it isn't naturally occurring. If you have the room in your heart and home he would make a great addition- and I can personally attest that many "pitbull" dogs are great with kids, animals and strangers (almost to a fault with strangers!).
He's a lucky pup that he wandered into your yard- think how sad it would be for a well behaved and trained pup to be abandoned and go feral? Good luck!

Looks part yellow lab to me.

As for age, roll him over and take a picture of the underside. That would help tell his age.

This has made me shed a tear. This looks like my old dog AVATAR. Long before the movie. She was a cross between a fisct. Small white dog with a curly tail and a rodesian ridge back. I am not goo at spelling but they are VERY intelligent. She died in puppy birth. Buried her out by Pancake Texas. Full moon and howling cayotes. What a way for her to be remembered. Thank you for the sweet memories.

I'd say he's at least half pit. I don't see boxer in there.

Part pit. Look at his teeth and see if the canine teeth have already erupted. If they haven't then that's because he's under 6 months of age. If they have, then he's at least over 6 months of age. Pits can have white paws so I doubt he has border collie in him.

Unfortunately, that is a pit bull. I personally would call the dog catcher. He was probably dumped due to aggression issues.
