Mow down cedars ?

We planted around 30 bare root 18" cedars around two months ago. Everyone of them are solid brown now. Is there a chance they will rebound or can I go ahead and mow them down ?
I don't want to keep mowing around them all summer long if they are not going to come back.

I have seen many times where cedars look for all the world to be dead and they come back. I'd give them a few months.

You can break a small twig and tell if it's actually dead. If the twig snaps, it's probably dead. If it bends, as if it has some moisture, it's probably not dead.

Some help:

You have to bend them to see if they snap off or just bend. If they snap, they are dead. If they bend, they are ok.

when i moved here the whole curve of the land by the sidewalk was planted in cedars. they had turned brown and never did come back. bib by bit i dug them all out and planted gooseberries, raspberries, edible flowers and herbs . some roses daisies ,lots of perennials. i can tell you it looks 100 percent better right now. i have one left of the originals and if that doesn't smarten up it's going soon. jmo. ~Georgia.
