Is there any spray that kills and keeps them away?

Any hardware store will sell a spray that will work from 10-15 feet away. Not sure of anything that will keep them away though.

If it's yellowjackets in the ground, sevin dust will probably work better than a spray.

sprays will kill them, know idea how to keep them away. Please let me know if you find a way!

Not really a way to shoo them... Best to go ahead and put up a trap.

I'm not into pesticides, but I do spray when I have to. Hardware store sprays totally work and you can get them from a decent distance. Shake the can really well and go at the nest in the evening near dark when all the colony is home. The earlier in the season you can get them the better as the colony just gets bigger and bigger.

That said, these insects have their place in the ecosystem and I leave them alone if they leave me alone.
