RV Water Heater Maintenance !
................I performed my yearly maintenance on my WH today ! The electric heater element had completely corroded over so I had ordered a new element . The high heat pop off valve was also 14 years old as was the heater element so I elected to replace it as well ! I also removed the sacrificial anaode but it was OK .
................There was much calcification inside the tank and I removed as much as possible ! For those with RV's who have NOT given your WH a good flush , Now is the time to get this item done before you start using your Rv for camping ! If , you(generic) have not performed this maintenance in several years YOU , will , be , amazed at how corroded the inside of the tank will be. And , the More corrison the Less heating the WH can accomplish , especially , IF you supplement the gas heat with an electricial element that is coated with stuff resembling a jelley like chalk material .
.................One last point................If the electricial heating element is say 1200 watts , i.e.-10 amps x 120 volts , DO NOT install a 2,000 watt element . Because you are exceeding BOTH the amperage carrying capacity of the supply wiring and the Margin of safety of the circuit breaker that supplies power to the factory sized heating element . , fordy
