Help Me Pick A New Cell Phone !

................My 4 year old Motorola Tundra is showing it's age ! So , I'm in the market for a new cell phone , many , many choices out there . I'm focusing in on the Samsung models with large viewing area , like the galaxy 3 , and the new , soon to be released galaxy 4 ........also the Note 2 ! I need a GPS to help me locate gas well locations as the workover rigs move every week or so and our boss isn't very good at giving directions ! Also , HTC is coming out with the "HTC 1" , it will compete directly with the galaxy 4 !
................I'm also considering the iPhone 4S and 5 as they are in the same price range as the previously mentioned models . I'm not quite as impressed
with the iphones because of their smaller screens , although IF apple made a model the same size as the galaxy 3 and 4 I might give it more weight . There's my choices so tell me what you'll think ! , thanks , fordy

Don't know which carrier you are using, I'm with Verizon. I'm a big Motorola fan due to signal in areas where other phones on Verizon won't pull one and love my RAZR HD. Comes with GPS via Google maps, pretty good most of the time.
Has a larger screen made of Gorilla glass which works well for me, long battery life and wi-fi capability along with a 16 GB memory card, very good camera and more bells and whistles than I often use.

............I have an old iPhone 3G a friend gave me but T Mobile won't accept it ! It works perfectly well . Both Verizon and ATT charge TOO much for their contractual plans or I would agree to a 1 year contract . Apple , at some point will have to issue an iPhone 6 with a larger screen to compete with Samsung
Note2 and their new , soon to be released Galaxy 4 .
.............Once the world wakes up to the fact that T Mobile has ALL no contract plans , I believe ATT and Verizon will start loosing customers and drop their prices . We'll see ! , fordy

Verizon has a no-contract plan, but the phones aren't nearly as nice (my husband has been with one for over a year) and you can't put just any CDMA phone on them, so far as i know.

Viaero, our local carrier, has any GSM phone you want, that you can put on their monthly plan.
$40 a month for unlimited everything, within their coverage area, +an hour of voice roaming and 250 roaming texts.

I love and hate cell phones.

For me it is what company has service where I live and work. Things are getting better but at once time I had a work for with a carrier and a personnel phone with another carrier. Still only had service 75% of the time It is much better now so that I only have the one cell phone . Still lots of areas without service but at least I do not have to have two companies.

When traveling I like having a smart phone - phone, internet browsing, check email, GPS, camera, lots of applications to find gas stations/ sites/food.

But at home I wish I had a simple flip phone no bells/whistles just basic phone that did not pocket dial.

Fordy, I love the Note 2-- I like the huge easy to read screen because I find myself doing a lot of web browsing when I am out and about-- plus the great battery life. However, I have a verizon contract and they just want too much cash out of pocket for the Note as an upgrade/contract extension.
$700 retail on a phone is just too expensive for any phone, period imo! I don't care if it is equal in power to a 2 year old laptop.

I am planning on getting the galaxy S3-- the 4 I'm sure is really cool, but the 3 has all the features I use and is a significant improvement on my Razr-- I also expect the Samsung X3 to take a big price drop after the S4 launches-- should be a real bargain, they already dropped it to $99.

Absolutely love love love my Motorola Droid. My personal life is in there and my professional life is in there and because it is google--I have backup assistant so that everything I put on my phone is recoverable. Only thing it won't do is talk to my printer. Oh, and make my lunch.

If you want a big screen just get an ipad mini, or really big just a regular ipad. Really my iphone5 is as big as id want to carry in my pocket. Some of those other phones are just huge!

I have the Motorola Razr - and really like it's large (for it's coming out time) screen. I really like how it works, and it does have GPS and the screen is 4.3 inches.

i've been eyeing the Samsung Note series.

And I have the Samsung 7 inch tablet 2. That is really nice and you can get it have everything a smartphone has except the phone. It's been very good.

So, that's what I like.
I'm on Verizon.

If you have a WalMart anywhere close I love my Straight talk phone.
They offer a LOT of different phones and for $45 a month I have unlimited minutes, text messages and web. You do not need to go back to Wally word each month. There are a lot of ways to pay.

...........The galaxy S-4 is supposed to show up for ordering on T Mobile on the 24th ! I'll wait a while after it makes it's entry and see if it will push down any prices on the other phones available from T mobile . There are some points about the S4 I prefer over the HTC 1 , like the ability for the owner to replace the S4 battery , etc . , fordy

I forgot to mention about the Note 2--- it is NOT a phone for a pocket. The size would only not be a problem for me because being a gal, a wife and a mom-- I am ALWAYS carrying a purse or diaper bag to carry mine and everyone else's necessities. It could be problematic for a fella unless you drive around with it in a dock in your vehicle most of the day, have a desk to set it on, or you're like Indiana Jones with your "satchel".

One phone I know will NOT be considered by many folks is the new blackberry--- too little too late, and most everybody knows how poorly the blackberry app support is implimented. : /

We have two Galaxy S3 phones in this household and we both love them so much. It is only my second cellphone, ever, and was a huge step up from my first, non-smart phone.

I love all the Android apps I can choose from. The phone is beautiful, but the bigger screens are more vulnerable to cracking. I use a not-so-pretty hybrid case on mine to help prevent cracking, and soften any fall.

I like the Android OS because I think Apple does things to deliberately make you pay more for things than on Android, and offers much less variety in apps. Apple controls everything about it's products so much, I just can't give them my money.

We have insurance on our phones, it only costs about $7/mo.

iPhone. Why? Easy answer, Apple has stores you can walk into hand over your phone and say "HELP" and they will, and its usually free. Phone customer support for an Android phone and see what happens. Second sentence is almost always, "That's an old phone you should buy a new one"

I love my blackberry and it's what I use for my business, I have an iPhone as well, but hate it. The iPhone is a toy that has a not so good phone.

For talking and messaging the Blackberry can't be beat. If you care about 1,000,000 apps, most being stupid and useless the iPhone is what you want.

And there you have it folks, the reason why there are a hundreds of options for cell phones out there! Everyone has "their" favorite - lol..

personally I have had a blackberry and loved it, best thing ever for email, messaging and business use. Mostly fast and reliable and pretty rugged (have dropped it several times off a horse and it still worked).

then I got a Motorola Droid Razr..now this is one little nifty phone. Pretty good battery life if you use the battery saver option, lots of apps, good service, and if I need help, I walk into any Verizon store (and those stores are everywhere) and hand them my phone and say fix it..and they do for free. Have never had them try to sell me another phone. Even my old blackberry was fixed until technology took off and the poor thing could not be fixed anymore.

Figure out what you want most in a phone besides talking (really does anyone use a phone for that anymore?) and then compare the two you are interested in, check out reviews, talk to REAL people who own the phones if you know any who have the type you are interested in. Sometimes online reviews are "padded" with paid reviewers. Then pay your monies and takes your chances - lol..

happy phone hunting. (BTW - I keep my phones until they simply will not work anymore due to changing technology but I work for a telecom mfg. and there is a plethora of phones here, phones of every make and model, as everyone has a cell and when I need help with mine, I stop someone and if they are under 40, they are all over it figuring out what the problem is.

I love tech, but some days I wish I could unplug.

...............I , like everyone else , will probably stand around checking all the various functions of whatever phone I end up buying ! For me email , checking banking functions , sending messages , taking pics of stuff I want to list on Craig's List , etc . might also read the NY times as well as HST . I really don't care for texting , I'd rather just call the person and send my message the old way . , fordy
