Tornado warning and snowstorm at once

The TV just gave a warning that my county and several others are in a tornado warning. It's been snowing most of the day and it's so foggy I can't see across the lake. It's 31 degrees right now.

Our lakes still have between 2-3' of solid ice when normally my lake has open water by now.

Strange!

We are in Todd County, not far from you. I did not find any tornado warnings around here, thank goodness.

Good luck to you!

Today was the scheduled statewide tornado drills. Are you sure that isn't what you heard?

If that's true, then apparently this isn't true of just Nebraska.

Tornado warning and snowstorm at once - Homesteading Questions

Last week in the course of 6 hours we had 70 degrees, rain, a tornado that tore apart the local fire chief's farm, and finally a blizzard!!

I looked for it on some weather websites but couldn't find anything beside the winter storm warning but that included about 20 counties. It doesn't end until tomorrow morning.

The tornado warning was a federal weather warning and it listed only 4-5 counties and it ended at 8:45 pm.

I dunno?

My weather app said yesterday that the tornado drills for Wisconsin were going to be postponed until Friday, because there was a chance of tornadoes today in Wisconsin.

But that Minnesota would have the drills on Thursday as scheduled.

As heavy as the snow is, and as strong as the winds are, I doubt anyone noticed any tornado drills. Schools closed at noon (oops on that typo!), and are already listed 2 hours late for tomorrow morning. We got 5-6 inches of very very wet heavy snow. Probably more than that, it is about 30-34 degrees, so it melted some durning the day.

What a cruel joke to play on us so late in the year.

Paul

I've been seeing woodcock in some of the bare spots in the woods. Hopefully they have enough energy to wait this out but we've got rain/snow scheduled for every day but 1 for the next 5 days. At least we've got sun for tomorrow.

I hope the trees lose some of the frozen sleet before the wind cranks up today.

Most of the late school starts for this morning have turned into closings. Oddly, my school district, in the middle of the bad travel circle, was not even late for openning this morning. Even the big city never closes district is 2 hours late near us....

Fortunately the trees have not budded yet around here, or we would have massive tree damage. This was heavy wet sticky snow, and a 20 to 30 mph wind yesterday and today. That would have been brutal on trees with the normal budding and leafing this time of year.

Our wind is supposed to be 30+ mph today. Hopefully I won't be trading my snow scoop for a chainsaw.
