Car Storage Rates?
Just wondering what is the going rate for storing a car outdoors on someone's property? This question being asked because we have been storing someone's car (friend) on our property on our very large driveway all last fall and winter, and it's still here! I want it gone!
So I need to find them a decent-priced storage place but not sure what the going rate is for outdoor storage, and what is reasonable or not? Yes, I know, we can just say, Get that car outta here, but we want to at least help find a spot for the sake of friendship.....I do not relish having weeds growing up around this car all summer so the plan is to have it gone by then. While we did offer to keep the car over winter "til it gets sold", the owner has not had one person out here to look as far as I know, so it's time for his old bessy to go to greener pastures (which will not be on ours! lol) I suspect the owner really doesn't want to sell the car at all, but to appease his wife, has moved it off his own property (which being in town, he has no legal space for).

That's the main thing.
I wouldn't worry too much about finding a place for him.
Or tell him you'll sell it for him, and keep half the money

Is it worth much?? Junk dealers will come and haul it away and give you $250 around here... If you have a car sitting on your property without plates out in view of the traffic, they will fine you here.

Unless you are charging him for the space the car sits on, which I doubt, finding him another spot to "pay" for storage is going to ruffle his feathers anyway.
I'd just say - enough's enough the cars gotta go.
Besides if'n he's not trying to get rid of the car and only trying to appease his wife he's taking advantage of your friendship already.......

Going price around heer is $50-$65 a month, in the open. All depends on where you are.

This is more common than you might think. Its obvious the person is afflicted with the "Junk Gene". There is nothing you can do about it. People afflicted with the Junk Gene absolutely cannot turn loose of junk, particularly vehicles.
This person would rather cut off body parts than get rid of a vehicle, usually one that has little or no value other than scrap. They will lie, make excuses, etc. They can't help themselves. Its the nature of the junk gene.
Tell your friend they have 20 days to get the vehicle off your property or you will call a junkyard and have it permanently removed. They understand this. I guarantee you it will be removed by your friend. He will undoubtedly lay a huge guilt trip on you and bring your friendship into question. Again, its the nature of the Junk gene.
The junk gene disease has no cure. I recall an acquaintance that moved to Tennessee from WI about 20 years ago. He would tow his non-running beat up 1982 Chevy Luv pickup 900 miles. The pickup was worth $100.

Won't the junkyard want a signed-off title? Good luck on that.
If it runs and you have a key, just drive it back to the friend's place and leave it. After a warning, of course. If it doesn't run and/or you don't have a key, consider it abandoned. You're being played.

No signed off title needed here to sell scrap they got all your id plus a thumb print you haul in a no title auto they take your photo standing beside it . Someone with the title starts hunting it and finds it you have had a bad day

No, this is not a junk car per se. It's worth around $4,000. No way will it likely go to the scrap yard for $200. I just want it off the property before summer, when the grass will be growing up around it. The thing is, it's his "single guy" car, not the family one he uses now, so I think it's a case of not wanting to admit defeat. I just don't want to store it here indefinitely. He said he would get a buyer and no one has come here at all, and I doubt there are even any ads up for it.

As a guy I understand the issue you are describing! Seems you have a good handle on what is going on.
Don't really know of an outdoor storage place for rent, that seems odd - for here. If you are going to store so etching, you would put it I side and pay rent on that storage. Used to run about 50-60 bucks a month for indoor storage, I'm sure its gone up in the last 10 years. I wouldn't know what to guess for outdoor storage?
Hope you find a somewhat graceful way out of this, if not you'll have to get ungraceful I guess!

I know you feel bad for the guy but it's his responsibility to find a home for his car, not yours. I wouldn't be mean or anything but I would tell him plainly that you expect it to be moved within the next 30 days. If it's not removed by then I would send him a certified letter, return receipt requested. I am afraid that if you don't put your foot down you'll be stuck with it for a very long time.
