Someone asked this same question last week. They got about a dozen answers.
You should have your state in your profile..
How does anyone know where you are from??

I'm 15 miles north of Indiana. I was just there an hour ago shopping.

I'm sorry, we do not allow folks from Indiana to be a part of this forum. There was a rumor once that all the folks from near Indianapolis were inbred and the moderator had to quash the influx of visits from those folks.

Welcome to the forum! I'm not from Indiana and have never lived there, but I do like the old song... Gary Indiana, Gary Indiana, Gary Indiana...

Kind of rolls off yer tongue!

Sisterpine, ...! that is sooo bad. Don't be hatin' on my hoosier neighbors from Indiana, ...if I'm ever lucky enough to leave this God-forsaken, (Illinois with it's highest debt ratio per citizen) state- I may have to duck out to a next door state like Missouri or Indiana

Welcome Neighbor... (but YES, everyone does need to at least list what state they are from. It really helps to answer a lot of questions and aide in advice...)

BKB HOMESTEAD: Don't take it seriously, they're just all giving you trouble because they only WISH they lived in Indiana. What part of the state do you call home? I am between Martinsville and Spencer, Morgan County, moved to my little spot in the country about 15 years ago. It felt like coming home.

Have you checked the social groups on your PM page? There is a Hoosier page that you might want to check out. More and more nice people are showing up there. We're even talking about gathering together sometime this summer/fall.

Welcome to the forums.

BKB: So sorry, please pardon my forgetfulness. I thought you sounded familiar - have already met you on the Indiana forum. Welcome, once again.

Noticed that you are opting out of the rat race and are getting started on the self-reliant way of life, including canning and such. Do you have any equipment/jars yet?
I have found probably 75% of my jars at yard sales and auctions. Another good portion has come from people that knew I was looking for them

The preservation forum is a good place to see what people think of different brands/types of equipment. It's also a good place to read of new things tried, successes, and of course some failures. I contribute a fair amount to the last part

Jeeeez...Rough crowd! Ok sisterpine and others, I have added some information to my profile. When I joined this group I was so excited that I wanted to jump right in and get to know others with my love for simple living and I guess I forgot to go back and add that information, so thanks for reminding me! There are a lot of inbred folks in this area-why do you think I'm homesteading? Marilyn, I have had my canner for years but always found it hard to find the time when I was working. Also have many jars and my sister has a friend getting rid of all of hers so we are splitting them between us. Thanks for letting me join your group-I hope to learn a lot from you all.

Just be ready. Canning can be addictive. The first time it hit me was listening to all of those lids plink when they sealed. Now, it can make me laugh right out loud.

The second time was/is whenever I look at those beautiful filled jars, just shining back at me, all lined up.

The third way canning starts to get addictive is when time after time, you yealise you can just go to your pantry instead of the store.

Nice score on the jars. I am a firm believer that there are hundreds of thousands of unused (previously used) canning jars laying idle in basements, attics, storage sheds, etc., just waiting to be put to use.

Welcome to the Forums, from another old Hoosier.
I was born here. I spent my life here. And, I'll likely die here, some day.

Indiana is a great Place to be.

I'm a for real Hoosier, but I only lived there for my first 6 months... Visited a few times through the decades.. Went back a couple years ago and saw one of the old family homes that's on the 4th generation in it..
